This is my first post. My name is Mel and my family and I live in the Hunter Valley. I have a 13 year old daughter who has a children's python who is about 2 and a half. She has noticed that the snake has developed a line of rough, dry and white skin from his head down about 10-15 cm.

We can see no sign of mites. I have told her we will take him to the vet next week, but in the meantime, mainly for her peace of mind, I thought I'd share a photo of him here and see if anyone might have some suggestions/ideas on what is wrong with him.

He last shed sometime before Christmas.028.jpg 030.jpg

Thanks in advance

Mel

Yes, due to the dryness that you speak of, it does look like it was caused by an abrasion. Most skin infections will have some open sores/moist scabs etc.

Is the enclosure dry, with correct temps? Not too much humidity?

This problem will likely pass when it next sheds it's skin, as long as caging conditions are optimal.
