so the people who had him before me said they were 2 scared to take him out and he struck at them when they were feeding him so i dont know but i think they may have been trying some how to hand feed him its only a day late hes only 6 months old though may be over worrying which i know i am but any thoughts on this ??

Hi there, it might be easier to get a clearer idea on why the little one might not be eating, if you could please let us know the following -
What are your temperatures like?
Is he/she kept in a click-clack or enclosure?
How long have you had the snake?

This is some previous threads that may give you some ideas. I don't think the snake has had time to settle in yet.

[h=1]not sure if i have set up enclosure right ?[/h]
[h=1]snake over night stay in tupperware okay ??[/h]

I would make sure that you have your basics of the click clack right and then leave him without handling for a week to settle in and then try to feed him. With your thermostat setup you will need to measure your temperatures with an independent thermometer (either IR or probe type). Also if your click clack is outside be careful that a cat or bird is not coming and scaring your snake while no body is around. A snake that size will get frightened easily.

he is in his tank outside with a mesh top of a day time i have painted the outside black now on 3 sides and put isulation foam around the dark sides and keeping him in his click clack of night because its to cold out there for him i went to the pet super store and the girl there said a thermostat wouldnt really be needed for him atm she has carpets and a bearded and siad all should be fine with what im doing he has been left alone all day only handled to put in his click clack of a night time and morning

Moving him from one enclosure to another will stress him out. Also if the glass is painted black and in the sun that might not be a good thing as the enclosure may heat up still. The thermostat is also there to stop the mat from getting too hot and melting causing fire. Are you using the same heat mat in the click clack and the glass tank or do you not heat during the day?

using the same heat matt

IMO I wouldn't keep any juvinile snake in an outside enclosure, children's pythons need constant heat for at least the first 12months (or at least that is what I have been told correct me if this seems wrong) as andynic07 said also moving him around would be causing a lot of stress and not being able to be comfortable on one area because the keeps getting moved. It would be best to keep him in a click click inside with constant temperature with a thermostate, leave him alone for a week to let him settle and not be disturbed, present him with food, if he doesn't take it leave him for another week, because whilst he is outside you can't thoroughly monitor the heating that is being provided throughout the day. The main priority is that he settled and eating
Also, I don't believe the advice given to you from the person at the pet shop shouldn't really be taken into account with such a young python, both beardiies and carpet pythons need a lot of different housing requirements compared to a children's python, especially juveniles.

Moving the animal around like that is definitely not something I would be doing.

as i said im only on here to figure things out and get help if i didnt take him the owner was going to release him into the bush he is in his click clack and has been since yesterday untouched hes just cruizing around in there atm i will be keeping him in there from now on and he wont be touched for a week or so im going to give him a pinky tommorow night before bed and let him settle in there for a bit first

Firstly good on you for taking on this responsibility. Secondly snakes have basic needs and as long as you meet these needs they will survive. Unfortunately whilst a small breed of snake is young they are very vulnerable as well and there is a few practices that you need to try and stay away from like keeping outdoors and keeping them in glass tanks in the sun. You are doing the right thing by asking questions but I think you would be best served speaking to people on this site who specialise in snakes rather than speaking to someone from a pet shop , although their intentions may be in the right place or they may know the right advice to give you my experience is some of them are just pet shop workers and do not know a lot about reptiles. You just need to keep the questions coming even though sometimes the answers may seem angry.

yeah kind of feel like some people are just trying to call me stupid but dosent bother me he didnt eat his pinky but he had shed his skin when i got up today i think that might have had something to do with it ??...hes so bright and full of colour lil guy:) i might wait till tomorow night and give him another one that one was gross by the time i got home from work today

No one is trying to say that to you, you asked some questions and you have been given some hopefully helpful answers, the best thing for you to do is take that into account and look into the information provided. You have taken on a huge responsibility and it can be difficult sometimes with any new pet, keep us all updated, it could have been because he was in shed like you said :) I would love to see some photos of your little guy :)

he ate his pinky today :) big stretch for the little guy haha and i will take some tommorow and post them

make sure he settle's in well do not put to much stress on him he need's to feel comfort and safety make sure he has a hide and only disturb him for water or feed maybe you could put a pinky? in there at the end of the week and I would consider taking him inside or in a garage or something similar as these snake will not tolerate such exposure water possibly every two day's as not to startle the little fella..
