G'day peoples,

Was just wondering how some of you have gone about putting holes in you click clacks? Also, does the lid also need to be holed?

the lid of mine was holed, not sure if it's totally necessary.
you cant use the tip of a soldering iron or a small drill peice to make holes.

heated nail is the best i have used but i now have a tool that does it just a old pottery tool kinda like a curved chisel that i just spin in a circle lol it works so good

i use a soldering iron. easy, quick and creates a nice clean hole...no rough edges on the outside for a snake to catch on

I put holes in the top, because hot air rises, and it helps to cut down on himidity. Plus it helps circulate the air so there's no stale air

hope I helped
ek

If drilling, I would do it from the inside of the lid so that any sharp bits end up on the outside.

Can't?

Yes, I was considering drilling, but now that some of you have mentioned soldering I think that may the way to go. Anyone have any pictures by any chance?

Use a metal BBQ skewer and heat it over a gas flame until it is red hot. It is really easy to make holes, and the heat means that you don't have any sharp edges. You do, however get a horrible smell of burning plastic through the house!!!

lol, jessb, i was thinking that, i'll try to do it outside!

here's some...just did this one up today as my bredli's click-clack was a little big atm...

I use hundreds of tubs mainly in rack systems. To burn holes i use this jig which has 5 $10 soldering irons conected via a powerboard. The jigged soldering irons are then clamped to a bench along which you slide the tub. Then rotate the tub 90 degrees until all four sides are done. You end up with all the holes the same distance from the top of the tub which looks nice. This way I can do about 100 tubs an hour on four sides with five holes each side. Saves heaps of time.

If drilling I find that it makes the excess crap come outwards, so it's best to go outside-in, and hold a block of wood on the inside to drill into and support the plastic. if there's crap hanging off the hole knock it off with a chisel or something and if necessary run a bit of sand paper round the inside of it.

Otherwise heat will make a nice hole without sharp edges.

Soldering iron it is! Thanks guys. Now to find it, I haven't used it in a few months...;)

Wokka, that system is brilliant!
