I have recently purchased 2 coastal carpet pythons (male and female) and need to build an enclosure to house them when both fully grown. Also i want to keep them in the same enclosure what would be the ideal size??? I want to breed them and should be of breeding age next cycle. I have read that they can be housed together and seperated through winter then re introduced when it is time to mate, is this true or can they stay together 12 months of the year??? Or shpuld i house them seperately??? both have been sharing an enclosure for 12 months so i figured i better find out now before i make any big mistakes. Any help would be much appreciated.

oooh, house separat;ly dude, kinda out of it so cant share more than that sry

Cheers mate any more info another day would be appreciated. Some people have said they leave them together all year round and still produce eggs but in some books it says they can become indifferent to each other and dont even mate. Also have read having a large enclosue allows them to have their own space (territory) so can be housed together but different books and websited contradict each other. Was hoping someone had the same set up and did they get results, but thinking about seperating.

dude you bought 2 fully grown pythons and don't have an enclosure what have you got them in now

Also they have been housed together for 12 months. Seperated for feeding, both are perfect to handle. I think i have observed them mating but they are both under 2 years so to young to breed. and have not felt any eggs as yet.

I let em roam around the backyard hahahahahah Are in a 4 x 2 x 2 enclosure. set up works fine and in good condition. but looks too small. New to this and want to make new enclosure/s asap but trying to work out best set up for pythons and be prepared for breeding next year. Have had bearded dragon before when younger but this completley diff

How big are they?
2 years old i would say no where near breeding age or size.
They can be housed together and i would advise an enclosure taller than wider as they are aboriel.
I've got 2 in a 6" high, 4" wide by 2" deep and they are very happy.
What are you keeping them in now?

you could build a 2 in one enclosure one ontop of the other, the ideal size would be half there body size or large enough they can stritch out and about 600 mm 60 cm deep. or 2 tall enclosures side by side with a luver of somesort in the middle of the enclosures when breeding season comes along and there old enough just open it up to alow the male to pass through. if you want a successful breeding when the time comes I'd seperate them and this just makes them want each other all the more and your more then likely to see some action then if you left them together. if they would of bred this year you would have had eggs already but there no where near old anough so I dought there would be any mating or egg laying just yet. you'll be looking at about 3 years for the female and possibly 2.5 years for the male for breeding and depending on the female's size as well. you may even see some mating the first year but still no egg laying, some times it takes them a few years to realise what to do lol.

hope this helps

4 x 2 x 2 atm. They are not quite 2 years yet and about 170cm - 180cm would an enclosure your size do them for life? or will i have to build it larger down the track? And will they still breed being housed together?

It would do them for their life time and you could put the male back in to the 4x2x2 for winter

Cheers to everyone you have been a big help. I got some planning to do and some materials to buy, will keep ya's all updated soon on how the project is going. Any good sites for enclosure plans? I have the general idea but better to be safe than sorry hahaha
