The Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) is offering a number of reptiles and amphibians for disposal through a ballot. The following species have been identified for the Department and are advertised as:

1 Red-eyed tree frog (Litoria chloris)
1 Peron’s tree frog (Litoria peronii)
1 Water dragon (Physignathus lesueri)
2 Inland bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps)
2 Eastern snake necked turtle (Chelodina longicollis)
1 Diamond python (Morelia spilota spilota)
1 Spotted python (Antaresia maculosa)
1 Carpet python (Morelia spilota mcdowelli)
1 Jungle carpet python (Morelia spilota cheynei)

Every effort has been made to correctly identify these animals. The Department cannot guarantee the identification of an animal offered though the ballot system.

These animals have been seized during recent law enforcement investigations. Some of these animals may have been caught in the wild and their original capture locations are unknown. The return of these animals to the wild is not a responsible conservation option.

The DECC recommends that a veterinarian checks all animals received through the ballot system and a reptile/amphibian hygiene protocol be followed.

If you wish to be included in the ballot you must register your interest by 10.00 AM Monday 29th June 2009. Registrations received after this time will not be accepted. You can register your interest by either a faxed message to 02 9585 6401 or an emailed message to [email protected]

Phone enquiries will not be accepted.

Your registration must include the following:

1. the words DECC BALLOT in the title of your fax or email
2. your full name
3. your address
4. a prioritised list of the animals you would like to register for
5. your current NSW DECC Animal Keepers’ Licence number authorising the possession of the animals you have registered for
6. your contact number between 12.30PM and 1.30PM on Monday 29th June 2009
7. NOTE: only one individual animal per licensee can be provided

Any registrations that do not include all of the above will be excluded from the ballot. Licences will be checked before the ballot. Expired licences or licensees whose fauna record books we have not received for 2009 will also be excluded from the ballot.

NB: If you are successful in the ballot you must be available to collect the animal from the DECC Hurstville office between 2.30PM and 3.30PM on Tuesday 30th June 2009. If you intend to have someone collect the animals from our offices on your behalf they must have permission from you IN WRITING. Verbal permission will not be accepted.

If you are successful:

1. you will be notified by phone between 12.30PM and 1.30PM on Monday 29th June 2009;
2. you must collect the animal from the DECC Hurstville office between 2.30PM and 3.30PM on Tuesday 30th June 2009. If you are unable to collect your animal during this time it will be forfeited to the next available person; and
3. you must bring a bag or suitable container to transport your animal.

Can we provide a contact number of a relative? (for between those times and ours for outside)...because I would be at school during the contact times.

Yes, you must have a valid NSW license. Worth having a go. I only entered once and got a lovely male MD. The trick is being able to pick it up during the required time. I got stuck in traffic and was running a bit late (15 min in the end) and got really worried.... That's a great selection of animals. There will be some very happy people next week! (Don't worry - I'm not going in it, so you all have a chance.;))

What always amazes me is the number of people who are going in this that bump the thread by posting in it. Do they realise that exposure of the thread isn't ideal for your chances?

Doesn't bother me though, I'm not going in it as I don't want more to take care of. Although I do miss my frogs.

Good luck everyone!

Registrations are closed! First time I've entered - hoping to pick up one of the pythons!

Damm only just saw this and registrations are closed oh well maybe next time good luck everyone!

its 12.30 hope everyone elses phones are off

I sign up for these every time... and I've never gotten a call!

*cries in corner*

Looking forward to see if anyone on APS got anything.
Would like to see some pics of the Diamond.
