Hey guys,

I currently have a clutch of Beardie eggs in the incubator about half way to hatching. The only problem is about half have some degree of dimpling occurring. This has happened with past clutches and I've increased humidity to remedy it. This time its occurred earlier in the incubation period and with greater severity. What can I do?

Kind regards,

Njames

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated!

Soft-shelled eggs absorb moisture from their surroundings. There are only two likely causes I know of, assuming your temperature is correct (about 31[SUP]o[/SUP]C) – humidity level and viability of the eggs. Non-viable eggs can fail to absorb moisture from fairly early on. At this stage, however, I would try gently increasing the humidity and see what happens over the next few days. After that I would try candling an egg or two that stays dimpled and compare it with a coupled of candled eggs that were not dimpled when. That should indicate those that are viable. If you do not know how to candle eggs and do so safely, best you get someone who knows how to do it to show you.

Thanks for your advice Blue, I increased humidity and as of today have four out of their eggs. The rest hopefully to come with only 2 slugs so far!
