Hi guys. So was just wondering, my python's bowels have slowed in the cold, anyone else experiencing this?

Not worried at all just find it interesting.

Had 2 feeds and 'urinated' but no poo.

I haven't taken her outside because when I get home its 5 degrees out there. Tried to get her to go inside but now very trained.

hahahahaha thanks. Keep me updated!

It's so interesting I reckon..

OMG - yet another one on crap variations... I can't believe how poo-obsessive APS users are.

Jamie

Hahah hey we're reptile lovers. Of course we have weird obsessions!
Nah I'm interested from a physiological point of view and the speed of metabolism etc etc. I wanted to know if it always happens. This is my first winter with my girl and I'm fascinated-that's why I read this website.
and hey,, I put it in the title so you don't have to read it

Well, reptiles are ectotherms, their metabolism is directly temperature related - cooler weather, slower metabolism... duh!

J

why thank u.
I will try to keep poo talk to a minimum but i'm not making any promises!

i really don't get why people are so obsessed with snake poo.... Do people also watch their dogs and say "i fed him at 9am by 12pm he should of shat himself?"

What the hell is the fascination with snake poop? What goes in must come out. its really simple as. same for every animal..

So far this morning i have picked up 7 puppy poops, changed 2 baby poops, and watched my diamond crap all through his freshly cleaned enclosure (no i didn't take pics, but i am fairly certain it was normal), its fair to say ive had enough crap for one day :D

She hasnt gone in 3 weeks and LOTS has gone in and yet to come out as you put
I'm not forcing you to read this but thank you for your opinion.

well i can do u one better , thismorning i saw my croc take a dump and my murry cod ---- beat that anyone

what size food is she on?

ps, note the smiley face at the end of my last comment? it indicates i have a sense of humour....

Yeah dw I've liked many of your comments before newtolovingsnake so I know you're not an a$% :)
I just meant this post to talk about the stuff and it looks like I'm being a bimbo but I'm interested cus I majored in physiology and we studied stuff like this in other mammals.
Anyways she's had 2 med rats, 1 large. No poo.
Whats the bet I come home to it tonight.:D
As I said she's toilet trained and only goes outside usually but its been so cold. Oh and I've taken her out 4 times this week in my heated bedroom and she just sat w me a little, got bored and dragged herself home after 20 mins. so rude!

I really am not sure about this whole toilet training your snake thing- i think its more like the snake has you trained, its not like they open there doors, slither out the front yard take a crap and come back to their enclosure, thats my idea of toilet training a snake. but in saying that anything is possible, I just know that my guys will always take a dump when i take them outside, but if i don't then they will poop in their enclosures.

Jamie, if their metabolism is slower would that mean that they absorb more of the prey item or just the same as when its warmer, just slower. Sorry if its a dumb question...

Yeah i didn't think it was possible to 'train' a python but she has only gone in her enclosure once 15 months ago and since then she hasn't.
Noone believes me but her tank doesn't need much maintenance at all so I don't really care if they do or not, I'm on easy street!

Oh and I'd think they'd absorb the same but it occurs at a slower rate.

lol, it all comes down to what works for you and yeah id be happier with less crap to clean...

how long is the longest you have left her in the enclosure for? days in a row?

Umm two days in a row? three when I stayed the weekend at a mates.
I love to have her out she comes out whenever I'm home and my bf gets jealous. And I got her when she was only a few weeks so she's very used to it. A lot of the time I'll sit in the room, open up her tank and she'll come out on her own and investigate anything new in the room (including people)

thats my point exactly, its not that she is trained its just that you have her out slithering around, making her wanna do poops. if you left her in the enclosure for 7-8 days (for example) i highly doubt she will wait for you to come and open her tank to have a poop, if she needs to go she will....

You, my dear, are the trained one in that friendship... :)

touche' you play a tricky game newtolovingsnake. I have one card left to play: She never goes inside!! I take her out for her poo outside once a week. booya.
hahaha ok this thread is annoying me now.
Thanks for your replies.

Have a lovely day I'm off to work
