So far out of my clutch of 13 coastal eggs i have lost 5, there are another 2 that are looking a little dodgy but both still have good veins, does that mean they are still alright or does that just mean that they were fertilized and may be going off?

Could mean either, it will be easier to give you an answer if you can post up a pic. I have had eggs candle what appeared to be good but they were dead.

cheers, ill see how it goes but not holding my breath, after an egg near it died its got a brown tinge to it

Hi Hornet, how did you get on with those eggs mate? I have a similar dilemma, eggs that look suspect from the outside, when candled I can see veins but only a small mass inside them, when they should be almost full term, Im not too confident. One went bad only a week into incubation, wouldnt candle and stank real bad with some funky fungus and shell looking wet in parts and oozing some yellowish stuff from the bottom of the egg, and it was affecting other eggs so I removed it and dissected it, and man did it stink when I cut it open! I knew it would but had to see inside, found the tinyest little beginnings of a snake in there.
Good luck with the eggs, if you have figured it out, please share via pm

I just removed another 3 eggs. 2 of which were the dodgy eggs with veins i made this thread for. They were all very much gone, covered in fungus and slimy, dimpled but not smelling. Anyway i cut 1 open, it was a completely solid lump with a small (10cm mayb) snake inside so at least i know it was fertile. I only have 5 out of the original 13 eggs left but they all look good and there is only a matter of weeks left to go so i'm hopeful i will get something :)
