RE: Re: RE: DONT MISS TV Tonight

I so agree Browns the only good part was the woma. all the rest is always on our deadly snakes and it sends the wrong message out to non herpers, how about a doco on all our amazing pythons and how people can keep them with someinformation instead of showing elapids striking and keeping in ignorant ppls minds that if they see a snake they will get bitten...

Duke it wont b in our life time that snake haters are out numbered by snake lovers.. wish it wasnt the case but it is sadly true

RE: Re: RE: DONT MISS TV Tonight

How the hell was he sending the wrong message?? He didn't once make them strike for the camera, explained a bit about them in a way you knew they were deadly, but not out to get us, and when he picked up the Mulga and had it close to his nose he was trying to show how calm a snake can be, and given the circumstances I would be highly supprised if it wasn't a dry bite, as the snake was very much relaxed and more than likely gave him a small tag to say 'keep away'.

RE: Re: RE: DONT MISS TV Tonight

I agree with Dicco, until he was bitten - it was an excellent presentation.
1000 times better than Irwin being a prat stiring them up to show how dangerous they are, at least this guy portrayed them how I would like to see joe average see them portrayed - the sad part was it bit him!!!
We all say 'it was a keep away' tag and nothing really serious - it was a love bite - no more.
But it blew the whole thing and undid his good work. Joe Average will just say 'SEEE......'
The tv crew focused on this - every ad break showed him being bitten etc.
He did that good a job I reckon that if he didnt get bitten they would have thrown away the whole segment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree ad. I was very impressed by the way he did not stir them up - But that is not what sells shows...people (inclucing me) want to see action. BUT the difference is we know hiting it on the head is going to stir it up - and if you leave it along it will go on its merry way - which does not create compelling prime-time tv.

I kept the kids up to watch it - just a shame there was not more on the snakes.

BTW there was some show on discovery last week - "Anatamony of a snake bite" or somthing - did anyone see that?. I was a classic - they got a remote control car - covered it in slabs of steak then dressed it in a mouse suite and chased snakes until it was tagged. They then worked out strike speed and ven. was injected. etc

It was interesting - the best bit was a keeper who was hit by 23 foot a reticulated python.Grabbed him on the leg when he went in to change a light glob and then managed to get him to the ground - pinned his arms and them proceeded to squish him. When he was found he had stoped breathing and had no hart beat and the snake was getting ready to eat him head first. From what i could gather a sub-contractor found him and used a hunting knife to rescue him.

He had bloodshot eyes for 6months from the pressure (est. 25psi ) and suffered mild brain damage - slurred speah or somthing.

OK not good as far as stirring up fear etc. but very entertaining :)...

RE: Re: RE: DONT MISS TV Tonight

Oh good. There's a show about snakes on the telly! Let's all pick it apart from the comfort of our armchairs.

the snake didnt seem to bite him aggresively,,,it was more like a very nasty suck..i was in the pub and had the tv tuned into it there..we all had a huge laugh at "rexes' expense...he just closed his eyes and let it tag him....im still getting a chuckle out of it.....i cant remember if i posted this pic before but.........

RE: Re: RE: DONT MISS TV Tonight

RE: Re: RE: DONT MISS TV Tonight

RE: Re: RE: DONT MISS TV Tonight

all im saying guys is as much as I love seeing our awesome elapids on every doco i think a doco on all of our other non venemous or colourbrids would be good to see and would ease ppls minds on the whole keeping snakes and there perceptions towards our native guys..
