Can they have say 5 clutches in 48 months which would normally be 4 seasons?

For clarifications sake, "double clutching" or "triple clutching" is generally regarded as having two (or three) clutches in a season without any cycling in between.

I've never claimed that it is impossible to double clutch pythons, it's actually been something I've always wondered about. I would love to see it happen, but if it did, it would be on the same level as geckoes laying 3 eggs in a clutch etc. It would most definitely be worth of, at the very least, a note in a basic journal such as Herpetofauna.

The females could certainly sustin that breeding rate in captive conditions but you would have to get them to breed off season. This would probably need an artifical environment which mimics a 9-10 month long season. This would be expensive to run. Its probably easier (and cheaper) to house 20% extra females :)

I don't disagree cris, anteresia and womas don't seem as difficult, but you don't here of many morelia or liasis being bred at those ages. Hence why I said 'animals', was just generalising reptiles as a whole.

I can imagine animals attempting to mate at young ages, but actually producing a viable clutch is another thing. I have some video footage at home somewhere of some hatchling ackies showing all the signs of mating, however in this instance it would have been more along the lines of showing domination, but if you saw the video, you would think they were mating.

Cheers

I know of a couple of people who have been trying to double clutch anteresia for many years to no avail yet. They warm up early and get out an early clutch and then quickly cool them for another month and warm them up again. But get no results.
