Hi all

I have been having a few dramas with my 5 year old jungle and I thought I would see if anyone else has had similar problem.

It started around a month ago when Monty started to produce extra salvia, dribbling and blowing bubbles out his nose I took him to the vet and he had an infection in his mouth and was given meds to be given orally one week latter back to the vet still dribbling, mouth bugs all gone but was still a little red he was given an injection antibodies he has now had 5 injections now over 15 days 3 days apart and after the trip back to the vet he even has her confused and maybe a little worried. The thing is he is in great condition active and eating well his mouth is looking good but he is still producing tones of salvia.

Any Ideas

Thanks
Mark

Got the resalts from the blood test today. A normal snakes white blood cell count is between 3-6, Monty’s is at 38 about 8 times what it should be.
We have been given a total of 15 injections to be given over the next 10 days, one ever day, one every second, two different types of antibodies.
The vet said if he shows improvement over the next few days we may be able to drop one of the injections.

to me it sounded like a resp infection what we used to do was up the heat take away the water bowl dry the cage right out clean cage every day give snake 1 hr with the water bowl every day but take it out after that nice dry warm tank to heal up

Sounds sorta cool just in a visual way, snakes blowing bubbles! :D

Well, it's good that you've sussed out what it could be. Best of luck to ya.

mate it sounds like R.I... make sure its a good herp vet, not just any vet.. some vets no nothing about snakes but will take your $$ anyway.. hope you sort it out mate...

I have turned the heat up and blocked off the bottom, so that he is stuck up the top in the heat, he is not a basker and normally prefers the colder end of the enclose. The vet we have been taking him to is Brisbane bird and exotics veterinary service in Macgregor Brisbane they seem to know what they are doing but $600 so far.

Does not sound good, esp with the fact that your in Brisbane, and that we have just had the warmest part of the year, so whatever bacteria it has picked up has managed to overcome the snakes best natural defences and those defences will drop with the temperature. Often these bacterias are very very very resilient to antibiotics..

theres another awesome reptile vet in bribane at deception bay (i know its a bit of a drive) clayton knight is his name. he is also a keeper and breeder himself. i had a jungle a few years back who got a really bad R.I. when i cooled her for her first breeding season. clayton sorted her out in about a month and she bred the next year. hope you get it sorted out mate. nothing worse than losing a much loved pet. i have only ever lost one reptile (an juvenile NT lacey) and it still upsets me when i think about it :(

I agree, it definitely sounds like the symptoms of RI. I had a BHP of mine get it once, shortly after purchasing it which I was spewing about. Took it to the Vet and had to inject a course of antibiotics which cured it in no time.
This is the only time I have experienced it in many years, but you have described the symptoms I had experienced.....
