Bel you obviously have a complex. I dont care what you do my advice is for the original poster. If you care about the environment you would care about using efficient methods for heating as well as other electricity saving options around the house. I mention the towel because I had to rewire a house after a towel was place after a sheet was placed over a bed side table lamp. Great fire starter. Common sense would have resulted in you having a better enclosure than one that needs towels at all! I guess common sense isn't that common.

Thank you for your help. And I was to quick to buy this enclosure but with the information i was given at the time I thought it was the best for what I needed. I now know it was not and will be saving to get a better one asap! Your in put has been g8 and it has given me a better idea on what to look for in my next enclosure! As for the towels, i was given this advice from others on here as a trial to see what shape would work best and was told not to get it near the light. I understand where you are coming from as my Bf has to fix silly things ppl do all the time! Any way thank you all for your help!!!!

The best enclosure isn't a common sense thought to someone just starting out. She wouldn't have known any better and I can guarantee where she got the enclosure from, they told her that what she has is fine. A first time reptile-seeker expects to be able to trust that the pet store's advice is best. When I started out, I didn't think of glass being bad for holding heat. We don't know these things until we start to gain some experience.

 yeah ok, u were talking to me when you made the towel & lamp comment, & if it means i have a complex cause i replied........ok then! As for me not having common sense because i dont just go & buy a 'better' enclosure.......everyone has different ideas of what is suitable & what isnt.......u recommend melamine boxes, yet others refer to them as coffins.......get the idea?? Im happy with my enclosure, u dont have to be! As for what electricity saving devices i use around my house......you havent been to my house so how would you know if i do or dont? I was trying to be polite to you, i simply said that Verity may not want to be having to adjust this enclosure to much, or to have to go out & buy another. You cant critize someone you know nothing about!

BY THE WAY......re read what i wrote.......i DID say her enclosure was only glass fronted! THANK U! As for my snake not being cared for properly.......u really are just a rude individual, as i said u shouldnt critize people you dont know, ANYONE that knows me, knows my pets get treated the absolute best, they are ALL cared for in the right way, & i am offended you think you can judge me like that!

Look I've got nothing to say to you.. You have had a snake for less than three months. You haven't even had it for a full set of seasons yet. You posted on the 12 july 2011 that you were getting your first snake.. see link >>>>http://www.aussiepythons.com/forum/introductions-56/just-wanted-say-hi-165874/
You have no advice for noobs, so stop wasting peoples time.

I never claimed to be an expert, i never said i had my snake any longer then a few months either. As for not being aloud to offer advice because of this.......no worries boss man! Goodluck Verity.

Fair comment. But there is enough threads and books for people to spend a month or two researching all aspects of husbandry before diving in. I know that there have been plenty of people who have looked up:
enclosures
heating
hides
lighting
food
substrate
etc etc before actually purchasing such items. But there are plenty that don't too.

No worries mate, & as we have spoken quite alot in the last few months you know what kind of person i am, & how i treat my pets, i was simply offering you my advice as to what has been working for me, i was not telling you what you have to do. As i said, goodluck, i hope you fix the issues you have at the moment.

I think 2 most pet shops only have the ones that are all glass now with flywire stuff on top, well the ones around me do! oh well got to go shopping..... it will be tough!! hehehe!!!

Mate you are the sort of person who asks questions and looks to fix things, (rather than saying I've just spent a heap of money, I'm just going to let it be, as your knowall friend seems too insinuate). You will work it out and have a tone of success keeping snakes. Keep asking questions and keep looking for the best way to do things. Utilise your BF being a sparky and show him how you want your enclosures wired up from examples on the forum. Congrats on your snake and future purchases. You'll have 20 before long :)

Did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?? Or are you just always this charming? Could you please show me where i said im a knowall or even where i insinuated she should just leave it as it is? I only stated what i had done in the cooler months with my enclosure to keep in the heat, & as its now warming up again, i dont have to do anything to keep it in........i did say this was how it is with my enclosure & this is the case in my house. Nothing more nothing less. As for your mouth & the names you want to throw around.......you ruin this site for new comers with your 'your new so shut your mouth' kind of comments.......well done to you!

...but after just spending the money she has im sure she doesnt want to be having to do to much extra work to it. Partially covering the top as mentioned should be enough, at least just for the time being anyway, the weather is warming up again now anyway.

I'm noob too...
Bel stop making these threads about you. I've only been helpful to the original poster. Nothing else...
I never said you are a knowall, I said her friend was. Stop being so self absorbed.
It's not about what you have done or do in the few weeks you have had a snake. It's about helping the original poster get better temps, as that was what she asked for... Setting up enclosures is about setting them up right and trouble free. The kind of set up you have is not suitable for 10 degree environments. Setting up an enclosure so they can be used for years without hasttle, is simple and just takes a bit of know how. Sometimes it's best to listen and learn, than tell people to use towles to keep their enclourse warm...

Does someone have to start a catfight on every thread? Haha, that is how it has seemed lately. :p

Yeah lately each time i log on & heaven forbid actually comment on something, people are ready waiting to pounce. I joined this site to share my hobby with other like minded people, not to have people belittle & judge me cause i have only been here a few months. I dont feel i have ever tried giving advice on something i have no knowledge about, & the comments i do make mostly refer to things i have had experience with, whether that be a few months or 10 yrs, ive still had them. Yes, i only joined in july, after purchasing my first snake. However, i have wanted a snake since 6yrs of age, i have spent my life researching what breed i actually wanted & then waited until the time was right for me before getting set up (whether others like my set up or not......you dont have to live in it, matilda does, & she is happy) & making my purchase. I did get my licence a yr ago, & for 6mths cared for my brothers coastal while he was away, so i did have SOME knowledge prior to coming here, & although still not as much as the 'experts' here, i take offence to having someone say i dont care for my pets properly. I am fast learning this site may not be for me, although there are many of you who have always been respectful, even when we have disagreed about something, im just not going to ignore the fact that others can be so rude, i find it hard to ignore these people when they seem to get so much joy out of belittling 'newbies' simply for speaking!

SNOWMAN.......if only i could tell you in person what i think of you! Tell yourself whatever u want, u WERE talking to me, i am not self absorbed & never wanted this thread to be about me!

If you don't want this thread to be about you.. why do you keep talking about yourself? It's absurd!!!

If you don't want this thread to be about you.. why do you keep talking about yourself? How does mentioning I've wanted a snake since I was 6 help the OP maintain temps? This is absurd!

STOP freaking talking to me if i cant comment! Or are you just aloud to be rude & i should just except it? THAT is absurd! If you have anything else to critize me for, PM me.......actually dont bother, i dont want to hear it!

P.S- Verity, my apologies.

Look it's all there to go back and see. Seems you started to get your nose out of joint when I said it's dangerous to have a towel around a heat lamp. The sacrasm about being a sparky and so forth. I was giving my professional opinion as an electrican. I have helped Verity with sound advice. She thanked me for it and we are all happy. :) I've been around long enough to help people with heat problems and that is all I have contributed to this thread, except for the banter with you because you took it personally that towels are not a long term solution, but rather an idiodic fire hazard.
