im right here and im not deff wit but i havent been on a plane sinec septemeber 11 witch means i missed out on 4 vacations but ur not gettin me on a plane im extemly paranoid about these things

Sorry! Got to do it Instar! When you get on a plane, it is standard proceedure for them to run through the safety routine with the passengers. They show you the exits, they show you how the little masks of oxygen fall from the ceiling....and most importantly they show you the crash position. This last proceedure involves placing your head between your knees -because this is what they tell you is the safest position for a crash in an aircraft. What they don't tell you Instar is the bit they yell out just before you hit anything...an that is while your head is between your knees "KISS YOUR ASS GOODBYE!!!!!" :D

p.s Be brave, you'll love it - Light aircraft you said Hmmmmm

God, Thanks moose, Suppose thats payback for the spider stuff! lol Thats where ill spend most of the first flight atleast , Im betting, Head between my knees, filling a barf bag! lol

Instar,
My wife flies interstate at least once a week, it's just like getting on a bus, but alot quicker! LOL!
Don't think about the height thing, maybe sit in a aisle seat if you feel looking out of the window would worry you.
You will be alright, I bet you will be back on here telling us how great it was.

Neil

Thanks Neil, dont know which would be worse, the flight or the airline letting me drink on board!
lol

I remember being in a light aircraft some years ago, an eight seater, and when we came in to land there was some very strong winds that buffetted the plane. I looked ot my window along the length of the wing (I was beside the wing) and saw the runway in line with us. In other words, we were coming in sideways, wing first. The pilot wasn't too worried and after a minute or so, about 5 seconds before touchdown, he spun the plane around so we were lined up and landed in the normal fashion. A little bumpy, but that's to be expected I guess.

:) Im just beginning to wish I hadnt mentioned flying. Lol :?

If you can, go and see a doctor and get a prescription for Buspar, and some Diazepam, the buspar is a anti-anxiety drug and the Diazepam will space you out for about two hours, just long enough to not even know you are on a plane. Or, dont take any drug help and just hit your phobia on the head. Thats the prefered way to get over it. You'll be fine.

It'll be great. U'll love it! That helicopter ride sounds like a bit of a rush! Small planes are, IMO, a lot more fun than the larger ones, u can really feel the air around u. Don't stress out inny, u'll be fine, definitely get a window seat if u can, the view is amazing...

and most importantly they show you the crash position.
Yeah, like that's gonna make all the difference when you slam into the ground at 600kph.
Makes me laugh when the flight crew point out where the exits are ....... as if that info will be relevant after impact.

Nuthn2do, depending on the type of impact, it can be very relevant. Most pilots these days depending on the fault that cause's malfunction, can safely glide a jumbo jet to the ground as a "crash" landing, whether it be on the wheels or on the belly, but 90% of these prove un-fatal. But if you blow up in the air, your doomed no matter what..LOL

Yep ! definately wish I hadnt mentioned it now  600kmph? wonder how long that gives me from 20,000 feet? ..............{shudder} Thanks for insight guys an gals," ill let you know how I went after the first flight." (hope they dont turn out to be famous last words eh, nothin2do/Alan)

Last time i went on a plane was from sydney to brisbane and i made the really smart decision to go out the night before

Lets just say i was hanging on the edge the whole flight. so were my 3 friends.

I don't really like flying i must say, i don't like big planes, smaller ones are ok.

There is more chance of being involved in a car crash than an airoplane crash.

Regards Ether

Interesting to read how much are people scare of flying. I am licenced pilot flying small aircrafts and I newer think about crash. Flying is extremely safe. We do not have many accidents at all. When small aircraft have accident all media is straight away there. It gives good rating. Can you imagin if they would publish all road accidents?
I love flying and best is gliding and microlights. In glider with out engine noise you feel really free. I would recommend experiance flight in glider to you all
