Wow! A pilot!~ how cool is that! Lol I think without an engine Id be even more worried. Lol
No chance in hell of getting me in a balloon. :D

I am licenced pilot flying small aircrafts and I newer think about crash.
aha now i have someone to be jealous of! lol

Small planes are, IMO, a lot more fun than the larger ones, u can really feel the air around u

nah dont u go faster on the runway in a jumbo? fun fun FUN! on the way back from italy a few years ago we had some wicked turbulence and the pilot didnt put the seatbelt sign on for ages so we were running up and down the aisles cos when the plane drops a little, its like ur stepping further down but ur not expecting it...does that make any sense? its wicked anyway lol.

Flying is great, you can only fall as far as the floor. The take off are the best bit and I am scared of heights.
In PNG as a kid we went to places where they didnt even have a proper airstrip. One place in the highlands had a strip that had a sheer rock wall going up at on end and a sheer dropoff at the other. Fantastic
Safer than cars. I wish I could afford to fly regularly.

I don;t mind flying, it's the air sickness that i hate.

Flying is so safe it isnt funny. Im a commercial pilot and have spent over 1500 hours flying light aircraft. Never once had an incident, or even felt uneasy. If the plane has 2 engines, it will fly just fine on one. If it has one engine, it will still glide and is possible to make a perfectly safe landing (terrain permitting) if the engine fails. Just relax and get use to it. It can be VERY bumpy, expecially in hot weather, or in some cloud types, but its normal and perfectly safe. You will be safe!

Craig,

We're trying to scare the crap out of him. Don't fill his mind with facts about how safe it is!!!

I've heard of this airstrip. It's on the side of a mountain and is juuuuust long enough for a plane to land. But not to take off - so when they go off the edge they go into a dive to pick up enough speed to gain altitude. Is that the one you were talking about?

"Airstrip" ? sounds aptly named. better get life insurance first.

Yeah, I use the term 'airstrip' very loosely. in most cases, it's just an area where bushes and rocks have been cleared. No tarmac or concrete. At some the grass may be cut short, but not all.

lol, sounds pretty rough, but it probly serves the locals just as well. :D takeoff would be dodgy there too i bet.

that's 2! i'm too poor to learn to fly i think lol

This is definately going to be a rural adventure. "Mooooooo!" can they fit cowcatchers on the front of small aircraft?
What a montypythonesque way to go. In a planecrash involving a cow! "ladies and gentleman, welcome to bush-a-lot airlines, your flight has been delayed indefinatly, due to collecting a large baffled cow, while landing on our....um.."airstrip". Another plane will be arriving in a few days, we apologise for any inconvenience, meanwhile, the pub is open. Thankyou............" :D
