Hi guys, I think ill get right into this, yesterday my friend gave me a tiny hatchling long neck turtle (the size of a ten cent peice) and I have not been able to get it to feed, was wondering if anybody here would be able to give me any helpful hints, so far ive tried to feed him turtle dinner and blood worms (both of which the people at the pet shop recomended) so please respond quickly, and thanks in advance :(

Has the little fella got any heat in his tank? And let him settle in first before feeding him......

I would give him four days to a week before trying to feed him again………

That’s fair enough but most reptiles will not eat until they are used to there surroundings, so I would wait for a few days don’t panic, this is normal………

My friend purchased a couple of baby turtles a couple of months ago and they didn’t start eating straight away, he gave them about a week to settle in and then they started pigging out………

Just another thing you should take note, my friend has a pretty big tank so it took the turtles about a week to settle in, and if you have a smaller tank it shouldn’t take long for him to settle down, just try feeding him again in a couple of days Depending on the size of your tank .......

my turtle took a few days to eat when i first got him and he was tiny. now he is the size of a plate and a big pig

Turtle have individual personalities (yes yes everyone thinks I'm weird) and will do there won thing alot of the time.

I have some that took weeks before they would eat, and if I move them to another tank they wont eat again for weeks. On the other hand Stinky is insane! I can take him out of his tank and put him in any tub of water or tank and if there is food or fish in it then look out!

I put him in the pond outside and he immediately went to work chasing every fish and eating every tadpole he could find! For 3 days and nights I could look outside and see him eating, even in the dark lol

Give the little fella some time and see how he goes.

bring the temps up. 25 would be better. twice a day i about right, vary the diet heep. turtle dinner, blood worms, small crickets ect. simple tank is best imo, eg just a few live plants, that they can eat if the feel like it.
