Feeding sizes???

My bredli male is about 2 years old. He gets a large rat (not sure of weight, but its pretty big!) every 4 or so weeks. He is very healthy and seems quite content.

A yearling bredli will comfortably take a small rat. Anything less than 10% of body weight per week whilst the snake is still growing is starving the poor thing. During that first year 20% of body weight per week is a good feeding rate. At that rate it wont be "power fed", nor will it be starving.

My male is 15 months old, weighed in at 540g last week, measured over 1100mm in January, & is eating what my rodent supplier calls small rats 80-100g every 10 days or so. The rat in the picture below was 82g. Hope this helps put things into scale a bit better.

1 meter + Bredli = 100gm rats, no danger, and certainly not overfeeding.

i dont know what size small rats are over your way but imo there is no way a year old bredl should be trying to eat a small rat.my sub adult carpets are on large weaners to small rats depending on the size of the individual snake.i know of no carpet that would take that size food item at a year old.at a push a big coastal maybe but thats about it.

Shaun what do you class as a sub-adult carpet? I have two year olds that are quite capable of downing large adult rats and do so no problems at all. I also have yearling Antaresia that are feeding on small weaner rats and these snakes max out at around 1 metre fully grown.

Would you class this meal as too big?
