Hi guys, I know this has probably been covered before but I am wanting specific info for my snake. So if you don't wanna read or answer, don't ;P

I have a Stimson python, he is 26 grams. I am wondering if I can get some input as to what weight he should be eating? I generally feed him once a week on advise of the breeder.. Anyone with helpful advise as to what weight / size prey he should eat would be appreciated. :) thx in advance.

Peace love and harmony ;)

Feed him a mice that is 10-20% of his weight, remember you don't need the feeding to precise they can handle more than 20%, just find a type of mice(pinky, fuzzy, etc.) that aquires an average weight around 10-20% of your stimmys weight.

Wow that is a little one, I would feed him/her a pinky mouse about 4-5 grams.

Thanks bohdi! :) That's what I was thinking. The pinkies I have here weigh a gram!! Too small, we have been giving him 2 but from his weight i thought that still was not enough, he needs bigger prey.

Thanks Andynic. :) he is quite small ;)... We weighed him the other Day in his little hide and the hide is 7 grams. All up 33 so he must make up the rest.. :)

I ask because we are giving him 2 pinkies which weighed 1 gram each a week. He does look healthy, but we knew it was time to upgrade his prey and I wasn't sure what I should go for. :) ill look for a bigger mouse thanks Andynic, 4-5 grams :)

Have attached an iphone piccy so all can see he doesn't look awful and skinny ;)

I hate to go on names. One person may call a pinky 4-5 grams while others call a pinky 2-3 grams. I prefer to alway weigh even if it is out of interest and feed "close enough" to the weight that I am after. Melzey seems to have a small snake and small pinkies. A breeder that I know bred a small female children's python and the hatchies are that small that he is feeding them on rat tails.

He hatched on 11/11, so he is coming up to 5 months and he is still pretty small :).. I will go on weight, but I'll have a look what's there at the weight I need :)..

The first pic is probably a bit deceiving. This is the 7lt that he is in.. :)

Looks like your snake has quite a good little playground. Just make sure the rocks cannot be knocked off onto you little snake. Also how did you attach the mesh? Is it just siliconed on?

Thanks mate, I have put the rocks in so they are locked in place by the stick. The top is siliconed on with a neutral cure silicone (which did come unstuck) for safe measure there is a rock on top of it now as well (which I did take off for the photo ;)). Do you have a safe / better method for sticking than silicone? The mesh is between the lid and a piece of Perspex. so there is a hole cut in the lid, with a piece of mesh over it and some Perspex over that with silicone in the middle to hold the mesh between that and the lid (if that makes sense)

Nah sounds safe enough, I have been told that silicon releases toxic fumes once heated over 30 degrees but I have never noticed any ill effects when I have used it. I was only curious as I only have ever put small holes in my click clacks with my soldering iron. Good idea about the rocks too.

I did the holes in the sides but thought this was better (purely aesthetic ;)) for the top. :) the mesh and silicone is at the top of the cool end and it doesn't get to 30 up there much but I will bare that in mind for future reference :)

Yeah like I said I have had no problems with it but was told by another member on this site.

Hey Melzey, your lil Stimmie is looking very cute, if it is of any help to you my lil spotties (born 25/12/12) are on 4-6 gm fuzzy mice 1 per week and thriving, my lil male looks for another 1 10 min later but i won't indulge him just in case he ends up fat like me.......................................Ron

Haha' thanks Ron. He just had a shed, so he is in his pretty new threads ;)... Your babies are a month younger and eating bigger mices ;).. I'll grab some fuzzies.. Thanks :)

Bohdi, no photo I take seems to accurately convey his size, they are so deceptive..... I was more worried about getting an accurate measure of weight of prey to weight of baby. I think given he is 26g ill aim for (like you said) 10 - 20% of that so about 5ish grams should be ok.. :)
