Hi all, i got my first snake(coastal carpet python) today, it was an impulse buy when i went to get a new bearded dragon.

a few questions...

1)do i need to turn the uv light off at night, i would assume yes i do as i did with my lizard but just checking
2)do i also turn the heat source(ceramic globe) off at night, i live in melbourne and i have a 3' glass tank with glass panels for the lid.
3)i have stones/pebbles on the bottom with newspaper underneath, how frequiently do i need to change and clean the stones or is it simple remove those where dropping occour and clean those.

thanks, all other advice for noobs would be appreciated.

1. UV Light isn't required, so turn it off at night
2. Just leave the heat on at night
3. Don't use pebbles as the snake can eat them, just use paper towel or newspaper

Do you mean ventilation? :p

I agree here. Little snakes in little enclosures. A plastic tub and heat mat is all you need for a baby python. Container should be big enough for a water bowl, hide box and somewhere for him to curl up outside the hidebox but not big and spacious. Sit one-third of the tub on a heatmat, thats all the heating he needs. Paper towel easist bedding - make sure it is plain and not printed.
