straight in the freezer as soon as there dead. plastic bags clearly marked to avoid hungry hubbys making a horrible mistake one morning. lol

It's a good idea to put the date you froze them on the bag as well. The longer they have been frozen the better.

Would be freezing for snake food, not just to kill them. Do I need to extract any air from the bag before freezing???

Thanks guys for the quick replies. :p

yes its a good idea to extract as much air as possible before freezing and try not to open bags (letting air in) unless nessesary. :D also the very bottom of the freezer is best
(usually coldest)

No worries, mark those bags and you'll never have another hairy breakfast! lol

There is a limit though; I think 3-month min. and 6-month max. is best.
I read somewhere.

I?m no expert on the subject, but generally the smaller the item, the shorter the freezing time.
In other words, you can freeze a pig for much longer than a mouse.
If that makes sense.
It actually shows it on some freezer doors.
No mouse though.

The other thing, 3month min. is to make sure all the bacteria are killed.

i just tried to put a pig in my freezer artie.... he didnt like it

Do all the rats you get from pet shops get frozen for three months before sale?
and also when people kill live to feed straight to there snake is there a chance of the bacteria infecting the snakes ?
Cheers micK

To your first question, don't know, but don't really think they always are.
Second question, yes, no different to live.
