Okay so i got my gf a gecko from simon at everything reptiles. its having trouble feeding. the cage is 30cm by 15cm. the gecko is about 5cms. Not sure how old she is tho. I tried putting 3 crickets (small crickets) in there but it isn't interested. tried feeding it in a smaller tub too and still not interested, it's more scared then trying to hunt down the food. the temps are 24 to 28 degrees and substrate is washed sand from bunnings. misted everyday cold side and the gecko itself. any suggestions as to what i can do?

Wat type of gecko is it?
How long have u had it?
It's a smooth knob tail sorry i didn't mention it and i've had it for 2 days. tried feeding it yesterday and it ate 2 and today nothing. paranoid? lol

I got a knob tail Levi on sunday nite and last nite he had 3 crickets maybe yours isn't settled in yet how old is it ? Maybe try again in 2 days and Ce how you go I'm no expert just got my 1st gecko so I'm a noob as well.

Hope it works out for you.

Yeah but how long can it survive without food? lol honestly i forgot how old the gecko is. a month im guessing? yeah hopefully it eats =(

Let it settle in first. Don't try and feed it in a smaller container, that will only stress it out more. It might not feed for a few days but just leave the crickets in its cage and eventually they will get eaten. Knobbies are very shy

It is probably a bit stressed just leave in a dark room with no food for a night to let it settle in then try feeding it again the 2nd night.
How long can it go without food?
That depends on the condition of the gecko, they can go without food for quite a bit if they are healthy and are still being misted, how long exactly depends on how much body fat they have, i certainly wouldn't be worried about a couple of days, if it still does not eat after say 4-5 days then id start to worry

If its stressed then having crickets running around may be stressing it further
Its up to you but if it was my gecko id take the crickets out for a night to let it settle in b4 offering food

i agree. my geckos werent eating at first but now there both an absolute guts. Take out the crickets that are in there cause they will be stressing the poor little fella out.

try again tomorrow night. Is it licking the mist off itself??

Try also only putting one cricket in at a time.

Just my two bobbs worth

For what it's worth, we lost a gecko in the rep room.
4 months
later we found her, still in the rep room, no worse for wear.
Don't know if she found any insects to eat during that time...still amazes me.
She is still going strong and healthy and has laid her first clutch of eggs since then.
I have heard you should remove any uneaten crickets as the crix lose condition and are no longer fit for the gecko to eat?
Maybe removing them is a good idea, especially if your geck seems scared of them.
Keep your geck quiet and unstressed and try again tonight when it's awake and hunting.
A smaller area/enclosure may be a good idea to give your geck a better chance of catching the cricket. And someone else will know heaps more than me, but I don't think both of our pair eats everynight, so maybe it's normal for them to miss occassionally.
