Hey, so I got home today and noticed some shed sitting on the floor of my G.australis enclosure, a few minutes later I saw the adult and noticed about 1cm or a little more was missing from the tip of its tail. Concerned I picked up the shed and inspected it, the tail was not in the shed, a little more searching and I found the tail tip on the other side of the cage.
I know there can be many reason for tail loss, the two that jumped to mind were a problematic shed and accidental biting from the other occupants another G.australis and 2 S.ciliaris. While I doubt it was the S.ciliaris (mostly because they too my experience have always shown themselves as ambush hunters at least in my setup and because the tail tip was in a position they would be unlikely to be hunting in like this), it is quite possible to be the other Gehyra getting excited while hunting or something. I should mention that the shed was complete of the hole tail so the tip must have been intact when the gecko shed.
Just wondering what your opinions are on which is more likely. The tip of the tail already seems to be healing over so hopefully not infected but I will keep a close eye on it and it was not enough tail to be a fat store worry. Any other opinions/advice/whatever, in regards to tail loss in general for any species or in regard to this species in general would be appreciated.
