with each green tree python post on aps you also get a free debate.... ya dont get that with every python

I suppose the one thing to be said for GTP's is that they tend to keep the posts on topic, even on APS :)

It amazes me when GTP's are bought into conversation how many people openly complain about how "plain" they are and how ridiculous their price is. To the point Phil of almost instigating an argument saying "and a good Krauss jungle isnt?". Nobody said that!!! Nobody was arguing that Krauss jungles aren't as beautiful as GTP's. Why bother bringing it up?

Sure express your opinion, but why bother comparing it to something that nobody else has mentioned, as if people have already said it's better than something else.

Similarly, if people didn't pay the price, they wouldn't cost $5000+ per animal.

couldnt agree more my friend, greens are just like the ultimate in keeping, specially if you can do amazing things with them like bringing them up from hatchlings, getting over the prolapse if you get it, getting them feeding then keeping and breeding them if you have the chance. then there is the incubation of the eggs and thats another story, i commend Tim and Donna for the work they have done with greens and hope they have some good luck this coming season 8)

and your need for an arguement

If I gave the impression that I am looking for an argument I apologise, I assure you I am not. I am simply trying to search for a reason that so many people seem to consider GTP's the ultimate reptile.

i guess all people have diff opinions but most people would buy a chondro if in the position to fork out the $$$ necasary for one. also the perentie was stunning and BIG.

I, like most people who love GTP's can claim a realistic and genuine interest in the snake, which does not involve the money or rarity factor. Back when I first got my licence and knew bugger-all about the reptile market in Oz, I went to the ARP and saw their GTP on display. It was (and quite possibly is) the most beautiful snake I have ever seen in the flesh. I wanted one before I knew about the price tag attached, and as you've mentioned in a previous post Phil, it's all about opinion. It shouldn't be so hard for you to accept that it's some peoples opinion it is the ultimate reptile, just because it isn't your opinion.

Unfortunately for me, the White-lipped Python is also on top of my list...I'm stuffed from the beginning :-(

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it always will be up till now i have considered the GTP to be an ornamental snake only.. i.e you can look but dont touch, and for that reason alone was never too interested in owning one.

the truth is that they can be handled like any other snake and the temperment and visual appearence of these guys is beyond belief... i am a fan and will remain as such until the day i own my own pair.

Simon your ultimate reptile was there, the perentie, now he was a big nasty boy but sooo beautiful he just commands all the respect he deserves and some.

It is not hard for me to accept at all Simon. I am, as I said, looking for the reason, maybe I am missing something and they ARE the ultimate? That is what I am on about. I have not put the animal down once in this thread.

As for the white lipped, that is THE top of my list but just like you buddy, I am stuffed from the start.

Ricko...I don't mind 'em nasty :) They're a lovely display animal...and they generally feed better if they've got 'tude :)
