Just wondering if anyone know what exotic reptiles have been handed in yet...if any at all...???

Not many, but i think they are not really expecting to have many come forward. More of a warning of things to come.
From a discussion with Jeff H from NPWS it seems that the government is going to hit exotic keepers hard after the amnesty is over. It will be taken out of the state governments hands and will be more along the lines of being a federal offence.
Otherwords, if anyone gets caught they won't get off lightly.
Cheers
Craig

good, serves the scum right, I have no problem with exotics, only with people keeping them illegally. I hope they loose their collection forever

Sxe, last I heard it was a national total of 1 Corn Snake. It really is a sucsessful amnesty(if one would call it a amnesty at all)

well what were the gov thinking would happen with the amnesty. people coming to their door with their burmese pythons that they got worked so hard on getting them from malaysia? not that i have one 8)

It's only there to remove the accusations of unfairness for the subsequent prosecutions, and that's the way it should be

AS I said before, expect visits and ensure all your books are up to date.
As an aside, I got the pamphlet last week at the herp meeting last week, it has photos of these magnificent exotics, what a good advertisment , everone wanted a Waglers pit viper :?

i dont see why they dont try introducing things like corn snakes legally to the australian pet market. the worst that would happen is that they eat the rabbits :)

Greebo, I believe they get big enough to eat large adult mice or small rats.

Tommo, the amnesty has not worked as it is not a true amnesty. Read the conditions on the amnesty leaflet. No charges will be laid UNLESS they suspect a serious crime. They deem smuggling to be a serious crime and with the new laws, YOU, have to prove you did not smuggle.

With this condition added to their leaflet, there is nothing to stop the Federal Government charging all those who surrendered their animals with smuggling once the amnesty is finished. The only way to proove your not guilty would be to dob in the person who you acquired the animal from.

After all the Govt stings that have been occuring in the USA recently, you really have to wonder if our Govt does not also have a secret adgenda in mind as well. Our Govt really needs to look up what a amnesty means. Conditions should never apply.

Exactly Bob, big enough to eat all the little native marsupials but probably to small to bother any rabbits.

dont bring them into Austarlia, if you want keep exotics....its only an 18 hour flight to the states or 23 hour flight to the UK

your to quick I was going to say, try and work in a zoo....but owning one would be better.......Dreams hay

Greebo, you've got enough herps to open your own zoo - certainly more than many of the fauna parks in the country.

Hix

Like it or not Exotics are here to stay, no matter how many people they bust they are still going to be bred, the government could save and start making money if they licensed them.
But because of the "big threat" they are to our wildlife it will be a while before it's legal but it will happen one day.

I heard that some people have released their exotics.
Its wrong to do so but there you go.
Peter
