Hello,
I have got a 21 month old Stimson python for 3 months and he has got a bad shedding. He has still his eyecaps and my friend didn't manage to remove them with a piece of paper and water. My friend also finds that although he looks nice he is quite weak as he doesn't tie himself very strongly around your arm, also he tries to annoy him for him to open the mouth but my snake hasn't even tried to bite him!
Is that normal?
Here are his background.
- He did a very bad shedding when I get him as he did already start his shedding when I got him unfortunately. The worst part was the bottom of his head...I would say on the 10cm of his head but he did manage to remove his eyecaps. I managed to remove the rest of the skin after several warm bath except of a piece on the top of his head on his nose and between his eyes.
- I did feed him and 2 months ago he did shed, perfect shedding, all his head went away with the old skin. I was very happy.
- On 29th October he did eat a piece of chicken. First time he did bite to catch it but his bite was not great to be honest. He has never attempt to bite me up to now.
- On Saturday 6th November his eyes was not clear and he did shed on 12th November. All good for all body except the first 10cm. It was easy to remove except for the head and this time he has kept his eyescaps (I saw his opening his mouth but not noted the color inside)...I did give him warm baths but nothing works so my friend who has snakes came to look at him on Friday.
He put some oil on his whole body but eyescaps are still there.
The bad shedding might be a humidity problem. Temperatures haven't changed since I have got him but I did notice a drop of humidity of 10% (reach 50% in the middle of enclosure) the week after 6th November...I thought he would be fine but it was a big mistake.
Please could you help me for his eyescaps? how to remove? what to do? Also is it normal he doesn't try to bite me at all and that he seems weak?
At this stage he is staying in the cooler side of the enclosure with high humidity : 24DeG, 70% humidity...
Thanks for your help.
PS: The picture was at the first shedding.
