Hi Guys,
I was wondering if someone may be able to give me some advice on heat cords. We just got one for our little girl, but there is no instructions with it. I just want to make sure i use it correctly.
Thanks in advance.

At the moment its a hatchling starter home. Plastic sort of see through tub with lid. I can take a pic.

stick 2 rows or so of the heat cord on a melamine board (that's what i use anyway) with aluminium tape (as this will spread the heat to a wider area) and pop your tub on top of it and monitor it with a thermometer. preferably an infrared non-contact thermo from herpshop it's more accurate i reckon. =)

nah it would be a normal tub im assuming i dont have heaps of exp like most on this site but i will do the best i can (correct anyone if it needs it or if im wrong and let me know plz im learning too :) ) Well where your going to be keeping your tub (hatchling starter home) i would suggest doing an s shape with the heat cord so it covers about a third of the container keep doing more s shapes if u have the length but dont do the full tub just about a third.
Then put your hide up the side where the cord will be going and if u have another one put it down opposite end and water down the opposite end of the cord too then it should circulate well.
thats about all the info i can give you hope it helps and like i said im still learning too :)

i see how it is :) i wanted to learn as much as i could wen i got my first :)
at least your asking and not doing

what wattage heatcord did you get, the closer the cords are the more intense the heat will be, so dont try using an entire 50w cord under a 15L tub, you'll cook the snake,

for a single tub a 20w should be sufficient if it is laid out correctly, as has been said it should be laid in a S configuration, (some call it a W configuration) and not in a spiral as i've heard on other threads, if the heat is contained it will find the easiest escape route, normally the plastic floor of your tub. Ideally you should have had a test run before bringing your baby home.... so if you have any questions NOW is the time to ask.

It's a 15watt. It's only covering a half of her enclosure. We got it from a reptile place that we got the enclosure and the snake from. They did explain how to use it before I left but I was taking so much info in that I was second guessing myself about the cord. That's why I wanted to double check here with people who know what they're doing.

thats great, I just didn't want you trying to put 10ft of heat cord under a tub

if in doubt, you know where to come
