Hey people i have a 18 month old swcp in a 1000x1000mm enclosure with a 150w ceramic globe with a microclimate diming thermostat also a10.0 uvb globe. i am still heating 24/7. the enclosure is fine in summer i can get the heating up as high as 50oc if i want but i set the hot spot at 35oc. now that winter has hit i cant get the hot spot over 25oc and at night 23oc. i have two vents at the bottom of enclosure and two at the top. what should i do i was told 150w should be plenty. It gets down to about 5 or 6oc at night in perth during winter.

Regards Matt

is it a glass or wood enclosure? i used to have heating problems in perth as well but i set my reptile room up pretty well and my racks never had drama's with heat and i dont bother providing my adults and night time heat, yours is 18 months old so couldent hurt to start subjecting him to the 23 nights and 30-33 days then next year no night time heat

where are u measuring the basking temp from? up near the ceramic heat emitter or down near the floor ?
so the enclosure is 1000mm high yeah? has the snake got a basking platform or branches in the top half of the enclosure?

heres a suggestion being as perth is so bloody cold you may have to cover up alot of those vents, i found less ventilation = more retained heat if you live in a super hot humid place more vents is better

yea play around with what to cover just thick electrical tape both sides of whatever vents you cover, if heating is being problematic id suggest the higher vents as heat rises and invariably escapes from the upper vents

Thanks peeps i covered up 3 vents and now i am gettin it up to 31oC which is just enough.

cheers matt

I had to do the same with mine since the cooler weather has hit, i have a "blank" a piece of melamine that fits into the rear vent holes to help retain some heat
