Hi,

One of my beardies (only about 2 yrs old I think - I've only had a few months) died today. She just laid 9 eggs a day or so ago and seemed fine. When I got home earlier I found her on the bottom of the enclosure not moving. There were no visible signs of damage - she was thin - but as I said just laid eggs - and has eaten since.
This is the first time I have ever had a beardie lay eggs so it is a bit new to me - just devastated she died and really confused why...

Anyone have any deas or theories?

Thanks

Hi Rhett, Sorry to hear about your loss. I'm no expert but maybe she was too small to breed? Maybe she became egg-bound?

There could be many reasons as to why...

As Rahni says she could be eggbound,,,
she could have died from shock( not happening often) from the stress of birth for a young lizard.
she could have died from lack of nutrition even though she has eaten since..
she could have died from dehydration from expressing fluids in the birth process
she could have done some internal damage in the birthing
there could be a infection within her
she could have been to exhausted to move from the hot spot in the tank and overheated

so on and so on..

How are the eggs looking?

the problem with reptiles is they have no voice to express their concerns. They dont speek, moan or whimper when they are unwell.
I know it is hard for you now and we are all sorry for your loss here but take solice in knowing you gave her a good life.
