Yeh, how big is your enclosure and is it a wooden set up or a aquarium? I have my hides away from the lamp, the theory being that you see more of your snake. Glass aquariums tend to loose heat faster. I ran my60x30x30cm tank's 60watt lamp pretty near those temps with an on off thermostat because my cold end was to cold. This week I built a wooden enclosure to replace the tank (not for heating, for more room). I have four enclosures and they all run different lamp temps at point blank because the dimensions are quite varied. I have a 150cm high enclosure that has a very hot lamp in it because the floor is always cold, and my coastals in there hardly ever go on the floor.
With that in mind it sounds like your hide needs to be moved because if it really was to hot in there your snake would retreat to the water bowl not the hide to cool off. Some pics might help.
