Before everyone tells me to take him to the vet immediately I would like to let you know I have, and they can't help me more than they are =(
My beautiful 6" Coastal Bruce can't seem to be able to move and no one can figure it out...I know this post is a long shot but it's worth a try.
My local reptile vet has sent off blood tests and swabs from the throat and anus with no results. She has also called specialists from USA and everyone is scratching their heads.
At the moment Bruce seems to go ok while he is the sun, and is getting antibiotic injections every 3 days, but once his temps drop below 30 degrees he seems to freeze up and even spasm to a certain point so that his neck twists and he ends up laying on his eye all night.
If anyone can suggest anything to put an end to this for my beautiful boy I will be so grateful! I can only imagine how this must feel for him and I can't stand it...

that is so sad =[ i hope hes ok... really cant offer anything sorry

From the neck twisting it sounds like neuro problems, all snakes have it to a degree its just what triggers it is the mystery,
some have more vulnerability than others like jags and albinos and the like.
Stress is a trigger, if he doesnt like being below 30 than that could be a cause, maybe age aswell.
Sorry but there is nothing you can do about a neuro problem but make them comfortable and less stressed.

Sorry to hear.

Where do you live and have you seen a vet who specialises in reptiles or a normal small animal vet?

So if it only happen under 30 degrees , can you possibly just keep him at 30 degrees and over ???? **mental picture of him/her snuggled up in bed with you and electric blanket*

No but being serious can you just keep him at 30 degrees or is this not possible ?

OPMV Torah

gosh you lot are quick

Old age mate, I felt just like that this morning ... stiff, frozen, less the twitch though. I am basking now :D

Yeah..if it happens only at under 30 degrees..can't you just keep his enclosure heated? A low wattage heat mat in a 4' enclosure would do the job for little cost..

I'm in Townsville, and yes, with vet's that specialise in reptiles. He is doing better than he was now that I try not to let his temps drop, and they're injecting him every 3 days with I think...Fomin/Forman/Forix...some sort of antibiotic. They did mention that it could be OPMV...but the most frustrating thing is that it could be a whole bunch of different things as he presents one or two symptoms but not the rest. There was one suggestion that it may be a UV deficiency, but he doesn't stargaze or head-lol...GRRR.

And guys I wish it were as easy as just keeping him above 30 degrees, but I know there is something wrong with him, so I have to get it fixed. I also want to breed with him at some point but I don't want him passing what ever he has onto my female and their babies... If I can find out anymore I will post on this thread as I'm sure any reptile fanatics will want to know what it is ... this even has USA specialists scratching their heads!!

That's so sad. It might be a bit of a long shot, but have you, personally, tried contacting universities, namely vet science or zoological departments with reptile specialists? Even if they don't know what the problem is, the mysterious symptoms might intrigue them enough to help you out.

Best of luck with your dear snake. Do let us know what happens.

Townsville should still be pretty warm
If there is a possibility of UV lack take it outside in the sun
30 minutes direct sunlight equals 24hrs of UV lamp
