Hi all, i recently bought my first snake, a yearling coastal python and i love it. Although it has not yet fed for me at first i figured it was because it was getting used to its new location, but it seems now that it is shedding..
I am a little concerned but, i know that the eyes are meant to go smokey before a shed but only one eye has gone smokey (which is extremely smokey and has loose skin on it :/ ) plus it has been 2 weeks since its scales have started to lift but it seems to be taking extremely long, it also has not become aggitated/snappy as i was led to believe it would, is there a problem here?? if so how can i fix it??

any help would be greatly appreciated

Nothing sounds wrong it can take 1 to 2 weeks sometime. Just make sure it has got access to sit in it's water bowl and increased humidity. Also it needs to have something rough to rub against.

it has a water bowl and i have a branch in its enclosure that it has been rubbing against, is there any reason that only one eye has gone smokey and that there is loose skin on it??

The reason they go smokey/milky is because of the fluid the excrete to help them shed it. I wouldn't think it would be to much of a issue that one eye looks milkier as long as it sheds in one piece. Sometime they go milky then clear up in a very short period of time other times it can take longer.

It sound like it will shed shortly. Just mist the enclosure with a spray bottle. Once it has shed just check the skin is in one piece. Check that both eyes have shed as well as the tip of the tail.

Jeffrey my woma has just shed today for the first time since i have had him, nice shed but a bit in peices.im putting it down to him moving into my house, new enclosure etc etc.always cool to watch but jeffrey does it different to my tree dwellers, heaps differnt.actually funny to watch with all the sand burying and trying to get under things.

sounds good im excited to see how knots (my coastal) sheds..today is the same one eye is peeling lots and extremely cloudy and the other eye is perfectly fine :/ finally got a bit snappy last night and bit me :) haha

Mate, it is shedding, you should leave it be and not interfere with it.
They like a bit of privacy when they get undressed : )

They get very defensive during the shedding process especially when their eyes are frosty. They can't see so they feel insecure and it gets worse if their being handled.

so a few days have gone by, he still has not shed, one eye is still completely covered in peeling skin, i noticed yesterday it has a couple of light orange dots under its head..
on the plus side, i saw him drink for the first time yesterday which was great to witness :)

If you want it to shed just throw him into a container with 5cm of water in it make sure that it's warm you can throw a heat cable under the container. Let him swim in that for about 20 mins. He will should have a clean shed over night.
