Found 2 ticks on one of my diamond pythons yesterday.

The local vet recommended Frontline (wipe on using cloth, leave for 30 mins then rinse snake).

As it is currently I'm treating the whole collection for mites using TOD and the pet shop spray (can't remember name) for the snakes themselves.

Can some experienced people offer some advice re the tics?

frontline will do nothing to ticks in that short a time frame, particularly seeing as your washing it off...

try get a Skudo electronic tick repellor. 3m radius of the source. hang it in the viv/enclosure..

Ticks can be removed by using pointed tweezers to grasp them firmly as close to the skin as possible, twisting a bit n then pulling. (make sure the head part is dislodged from the skin).
To prevent infection put a dab of betadine on each tick site.
(hope this helps a bit)

We get a lot of ticks in our area - on our pets and ourselves! We are now proficient at grabbing them (head included) with tweezers. And yes, follow with either Betadine or Dettol if Betadine not available.

I saw a tick on my diamond this morning, by the time I got around to getting her out to remove it, I couldn't find it! What a funny site I must have been searching the snake and the enclosure for a tiny tick! :) Wonder where it went???

Actually I would like to know where on earth snakes get ticks if they are kept indoors and mainly in their enclosure???

oh, thanks nagraj. glad you told me. i have only used dettol on the cats and the kids. havent used it on the snake yet :) will keep betadine on hand just in case :)
