hey all i would like to get an incubator ready (its like a gun id like to have one and not need it than need it and not have one) i am after the best materials to build one i was thinking a plywood box with a foam box inside it for insulation im after something cheap and easy
god i just really don't know where to start

which is best for the heating?
heat cord? what wattage?
heat mat ? what wattage?
heat light ? also what wattage?
or ceramic heat element? what wattage?

also do i have a dry box with a rack click clacks in there? what goes in the bottom of them and where do you get it

or do i put water in the bottom of the box and put the eggs on a dry rack

Our incubator is simply a foam box donated by the grocer, with two perspex windows, an ultimate reptiles suppliers heat mat, a oven rack and a thermostat. It works well enough to hatch all seven jungle carpets.
Hope this helps. :)

You're making it more complex than it needs to be. Get the medium length heat cord, I think it's the 6meter? that'll heat two styro fish boxes gently enough to keep if fairly stable.

Eggs go inside sealed containers with water and vermiculite at 1:1 by weight (20g of vermiculaite to 20gr (mls) of water). The Sistema click clack range work very very well. You don't put a inside dish the incubator for humidity. It stays dry.

where do you get the vermiculite and how much is it
will that 20mls of of water last the hole length or the eggs if not how often dose it need to be replaced

lonewolf. check your hotmail account. I just sent you a pdf on how to build an incubator. Couldn't post it here as they don't allow pdf's.
good luck

if u can source an old bar fridge, they are realy good. no need for it to be working. just some heat cord and make sure you use wire racks not solid racks to help with ventalation. then thermostate and thermometer and your set. you can use computer fans for air flow if needed 2. but if your using a small fridge shouldnt be a problem.
