I have couple of clutchs of SAHD eggs and today when I when to check on them one of the eggs from the first clutch had a slit in it..... but the lizard does not have his head sticking out of it,
I can see red blood veins but nothing that looks like a lizard, the other eggs have not started hatching so I was wonder if the eggs absorbed so much moisture that it exploded?
The reason that I am worryed about this is that the eggs are more than three times what they were when they were laid?
Here is a pic of the eggs to show the size difference

I have also added some pics of the egg that has split and another showing the size next to the other eggs

IMO...The substrate looks too wet which could be the cause of the egg splitting. How many days have they been incubating ?

I would use a separate tub for the eggs laid later .....as the early hatchlings could disturb the newer eggs

Hope this helps
Cheers
Sandee :)

Yeah it does look a bit wet, I would transfer them onto 6:4 Perlite:water mix asap

Thanks :)
I have squeezed out as much water from the substrate as I can,
they are 66 days,
I have put the split egg in a separate container with moist sphagnum moss in it and then put a damp paper towel over it (not touching it), my guess for the split egg is to keep the humidity up and make sure it does not dry out?
I don't have a lot of containers at the moment so have stuck the first lot is a spare tank,
Thanks everyone for your help :)

Cant help you with your problems, never had any lizard eggs. But congrats on hatching them out, good luck and keep us updated as they hatch :)

Thanks but they have not hatched yet but should soon, :)
but will do, when they do

Eggs will burst if they are kept too moist. If they were mine I would open the lid a little to allow the eggs to reduce in pressure and medium to dry out a bit.
