Hi
I am after some help if anyone can help me.
I just got back from getting my lizard and have had heaps of drama.
1. We got back my husband went to put the enclosure up and the glass at the front does not fit its way to small.
2. the uv light they gave us is 3ft long and our enclosure is 3ft it doesnt fit its to long.

3. the heat globe we were given is broken and doesnt work

we rang the shop they said bring it back we will sort it out so here i am with my little fella in the enclosure with the glass taped on so he can at least not be in a container.

Is he going to be ok overnight with no heat lamp they told us that he would and that they turn theres off at night.

I m really worried cause i put him in there and he is hidden under a tunnel we got him and wont come out i put a cpl crickets in there but he just looked at them.

Any help regarding would be very helpfull

Hi,

I have 2 of these little guys and they are great.

Where abouts do you live and what temperature does it get down to during the night?

He should be alright during the night as long as it doesn't get too cool. They take a little while to settle into their new space so I wouldn't worry too much about him hiding. Just leave him alone until he's happy to come out on his own. Offer him some crickets each day as well as some veges. I give mine bok choy, carrot and sweet potato. I chop up the bok choy and grate the carrot and sweet potato and mix it all together. I squeeze out a lot of the juice from the carrot and sweet potato otherwise it makes it too sloppy. This mix will keep well in the fridge for a few days so you only have to prepare it once or twice a week. He might not eat the veg straight away but eventually he should. My guys love their veges, crickets and also woodies. I have a colony going now and they get them about 2 to 3 days.

if your worried, put a rice/wheat sack in the microwave for a minuet, wrap it in a towel and sit him on it (not too hot tho)

Good suggestion Kirby. I use them when I have to transport my snakes or lizards to the vet.

He'll be hiding because he's cold and he's under the impression it's sleepy time, should be alright overnight without a heat lamp as long as it's not too cold, like jewly said.
Not much chance of him eating if he hasn't got good temps going 30-40 at the hot end during the day and about 20-25 at the cool end. Depending on how large your enclosure is my temps go down to 20-25 at night.

Once you are all set up do as jewly said, veggies etc.

Reminder to people; should always set up your tanks a day before the little one arrives, should have the heat lamps on a day in advance aswell, test that it all goes smoothly. Alot of the time the heat lamps give off a gross smell when they first start to heat up.

if its a baby, i wouldnt have it in a huge 3 foot enclosure.i would put it in something alot smaller.
i just came back from a weeks holiday, and my baby one is fine. no heat for the week. but the temps are hot anyway with the weather.
he will need to have time to settle in. mine took over a week before eating the first cricket.

It's been so hot up here in Brissy lately that my snake's enclosures are reaching 30 degrees without any heat being on.

Today was a bit milder though.

thanks guys for all ur coments hubby pulled my kids lamp apart and we have put a 60watt in there to warm it up

Im in QLD we have had 35 days and the nights have been around 22

IVe got a cpl crickets in there with him do i leave them in there or take them out he isnt interested

Oh as i speak he just popped his head out and ate one oh i feel better now lol.

He is going for a wonder now he is so damn cute!!!
Thanx for all your help ill let u know how i got tomorrow with the petshop:evil:

Yep, I was going to say use a lamp. If you ever get stuck, buy a cheap 'clamp lamp' and a 50L tub from bunnings and it is a quick, easy, cheap, temporary enclosure. No lid is fine, he can't get out.

yeah it is hot up here. my snakes havnt had tehre heating turned on for quite someitme now.. saves on electricity i spose

To mimic day/night I always turn off the heating/UV a bit after sunset and they go back on in the morning around 6.00am. Always wait to feed about an hour after the lights go on and at least an hour or so before you go to turn them off.

please dont leave crix in with him,

if he isnt warm enough, he cant digest. they will also nibble on his scales while he sleeps.

Also be weary about leaving crickets in overnight. try to get them out if possible, especially if theirs a few in their. They can cause some damage to little dragons through the night by biting their tails and legs etc..

Also, if you're worried you've missed some crix, put in a piece of carrot so they chomp on that instead of him.

As i speak hubbys getting them out quiet funny to watch lol and the lizard is having a lap in the corner
