Just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself as I am sure I will be in here lots picking everyones brains.
I have just got my Licence and am busy researching Pythons. Am hoping to get a stimson or spotted. This will be my first ever snake....(suitable choice?) I am also hoping to find a Breeder somewhere in S.E QLD as I prefer to buy from a breeder rather than a pet shop.
Look forward to chatting with you all.

get a coastal carpet python. spotteds and alike are fiddly are fragile in my opinion. coastals are pretty hardy. and cheaper.
but hey. thats just my opinion.

Hi there Shim :D,

Welcome!!!! I reckon its a good idea to do what you said by buying from a breeder. there are heaps out there and they are usually very helpful with the sale and afterwards. Stimmie or a spotted are a good choice for starters, depending on what your preference is as there are many top python breeds that are great to start with.
Good Luck with it all, and look forward to Chatting :)

Welcome along Shimarah. As for getting a python, get what you feel is suitable or like the most. Stimmies, maccies, childrens are great, a nice small snake to start of with if you like. Or if you prefer a carpet, they will tame down and be great as well except can grow over 10 ft depending on species.

Pick what you will be happy with, thats the most important thing.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I think I will stick with a Stimson or Spotted at this stage. The enclosure I have purchased would definitely not house a 10ft Carpet. I have been in touch with a local breeder am going to visit them on Monday for a look.

keep in mind it would take in excess of 8+ years to get a carpet that size, my female murry darling is 7 years old and is quiet large for a murry darling carpet python shes a little over 6ft in length this is a more realistic length for most carpets apart from coastals whos realistic length is around 2.5m long

me being me id stick to the carpet pythons

Welcome Shimarah :D

You may find a breeder near you through the listings on the HerpTrader.

Good luck and have fun!

hey mate welcome to the site as most have said hatchling carpets coastals mainly would make a good first snake and coastal or spotted u would most likley have to house them in a click clack for a while whats the dimentions of the elcosure u currntly have

btw where bouts on the sunny coast are u

Without measuring( Just moved cant find tape measure) I would say it's approximately 2 x 2 ft.
Am over near Currimundi jimmy the kid.

i recomend going for a carpet but what ever species you choose i would choose pretty much anyone but the coastal it has the biggest potential size out of all the carpets my recomendation would be to go for a murry darling carpet python, bredli carpet or darwin i have both md's and darwins they are both great snakes and pretty cheap with darwins looking stunning to

pm me if you want info and/or pics

also if u come down brisbane/ipswitch way let me know i can organise for you to drop in and meet some of my snakes

Welcome to the site. In my biased opinion, I would go for a diamond python. Good luck with your decision.. :)
