Ok so I have a 7 week old Central netted hatchling who until recently was the larger of the clutch. He is now by far the smallest and always has the empty tummy appearence. I separate him at feed time and he eats a little however nowhere near enough to sustain his little growing body IMO.

I just went up to the vets and purchased some Hills AD to try him on to increase his appetite (or at least attempt to) However I need help with what ratio do I feed him.

So my question here is: How much to feed, how often and should it be diluted at all?

i pose same question. 4 month old beardie, no food for a week due to broken jaw (ref other thread)

BUMP!

If you can wait til tomorrow i can get the answer for you. but id need the weights of them first. also the easiest way is to dilute it til it is a fairly smooth but liquid paste(about 1 tsp ad will make up 5-10 ml of liquid depending on how running you need it to syringe.), and syringe it into their mouth making sure they are swallowing because you can still give the aspiration pneumonia. be aware that it makes their poo rather sloppy. in the long run though keep offering normal food and plenty of calcium.

Not sure of weight I dont have scales that register something so little sorry.

Come on people please help us out here, so many of you talk about using it and always reccommend it in threads so surely someone knows dosage rates etc?

Shoo and I are just trying to save our little dragons lives surely thats not too much to ask for help please!

I had the same prob once before, dilute with a couple of drops of water and just try 1 ml at a time. get the syringe into the side of its little mouth and just put little drops onto the tongue without pulling the syringe out the lizard will swallow but make sure u only give a little bit at a time.... maybe start with 3-4 times a day and increase or decrease depending on what ur lizard is doing.... There is also a product you can get called herpa boost which increases the drafons appetite it is from the vetafarm range. you would just have to ring around and see where you can get it from.... where do you live???

goodluck

Thankyou adfel, finally someone willing to help. I was thinking that quantity but wasnt sure, I tried him on a little this morning with smear method and he took a little in though woundnt of been a ml so will try again shortly now I know quantity thankyou.
I live in Rockhampton, I have read about herpaboost though some people I know that have used it say it doesnt work although have read people on here swear by it. I dunno atm anything is worth a try.

Gex will it go through feeder suringle undiluted or did you use different method?

Yes it did squirt out easily, but it can be difficult to get it in, try just mixing 1:5 with water if you are having trouble
The reason i didnt reply sooner is because im not an expert on these things and my advice should not be taken as gospel

there is no need to dilute but u may want to add water to make it eaiser. its hills so imo its a dam good product, shoudnt need to make any changes to it, good luck :)

your not a fan of hills? vixen babe? sure is better then all the other crap dog food going round atm!

I LOVE HERPA BOOST IT IS ONLY AN APETITE STIMULANT AND LIKE MOST PRODUCTS IT WORKS FOR SOME BUT NOT FOR OTHERS.... I have heard some lizards don't respond to it but most of the time it does the trick and yes it is definately worth a try especially if it helps with eating habits....

hi mate,

What do you mean by an empty tummy appearance?
Is the animal skinny and boney, or is the tummy not big and round, but more flattish?

Why are you seperating it at feeding time?

And he eats a little. How much, what size, how often does he take food?

I just mixed the AD 1:1 with water to get some fluids in him too. Used a pipette to get it in his mouth. Will see how he goes :)

isn't that the only reason you give a lizard hills??? When they won't take anything else....

I know :), I was referring to feeding it to dogs, wouldn't touch the stuff!

Any dog food that lists cereal / whole grains, or meat by products as the first ingredients are shocking. This includes all the 'big' brands such as Pedigree, Hills, Eukanuba, Optimum, Royal Canin etc.

Not that this has anything to do with the thread so I apologise, I just like to advise people when I can how poop these brands are!

He is not so skinny atm and I dont intend on letting him get to that point as his sister died a month ago when she slowed her eating and she was not skinny. Definately not big and round at all.:(

His brother absolutely drills him if he attempts to eat and also so I can monitor how much he does consume.

He only eats maybe 3 baby woodies if he's lucky twice a day when he is separated. His brother is eating up to 10 medium 3-4 times a day.

I give him 2 x 0.5ml doses of Hills AD (1 x diluted 1:1 and 1 not) and so far this afternoon he had perked up heaps dont know if maybe its just because his tummy is full so he is happy. He seems to really like it, had no drama getting him to take it. :D

Separating during feeding is a good thing imo, id also be keeping him in a separate enclosure even if its just a tub setup, it may be that he just needs a stress free environment to get his strength up
Im happy for both of you that he is doing better
Good luck gex
