Just up the road from that place down the street.
Hi I was wondering what the average going price is for a hoop snake is? I have met a guy who says he will sell me his as he is no longer into herping. He tells me that its about 9 months old. Its about 5 ft long atm is that about right for that age? The guy I am looking to buy it from tells me I need a big enclosure for when it goes into a hoop. He is asking for $500 as he tells me they are rare.

Does anyone have any tips for caring for a hoop snake? I was hoping to see it hoop when I saw it but it was raining and the guy im looking to buy it from said that they dont like to hoop on rainy days.

I have attached an image that this guy took of his hoop snake

I don't think $500 is expensive at all for something that pretty though....hmmm what is a hoop snake?

I always thought hoop snakes were much longer and thinner than that. They're colubrids aren't they? How fast can they roll? :)

They have a habit of curving up in a hoop-like shape and rolling down hills to evade predators. Samma I reccomend you buy it, thats an excellent price!

I thought they put their tail in their mouth and rolled after you because they want to kill you.

You'll need a real big enclosure with one end higher than the other so you can get the full hoop effect.

Yeah well Sdaji I believe its been recorded that they will capture prey that way also.
Jimmy I would use a small paddock on a hill side, thats how my mate keep his pair.

If you live in a gully just put a bowl of milk out and wait, you may see a few hoop snakes come through if you're real patient and quiet.

The one I have for sale has a lovely green pattern and I just keep him outside near the tap so he is never thirsty. He is easy to handle. I would even let my kids pick him up if they felt so inclined.
