Hey guys. 5 weeks ago, we adopted a nearly 6 year old Jungle Carpet python. We believe the snake is female but don't know for sure. We weren't given much information on her history or temperament. We've left her alone to settle in but would love to be able to handle her. We're just not sure how to start. Being a jungle python we're worried she will bite us if we just go straight in and pick her up. Any advice or tips would be appreciated

Chances are she will have a crack at you regardless, unfortunately that’s just part of it. Confidence is key however. Hook out or a set of gloves if you’re worried about getting a nip to begin with, but usually once out even snappy jungles will tolerate handling. Just keep away from your face until you understand her body language and always stay confident in your movements. The nips don’t hurt that much at all honestly, it’s more the anticipation that gets ya!

I was very lucky and had a placid Jungle that was very chill.

Only ever struck me once in defence when I was shifting the thermostat probe back onto the heat mat while the Jungle was on it.

Apart from that one time i could always get mine out free hand no hook needed.
