just wondering if lizard eggs sweat? was told that they do and you will get a small amount condensation on the lid.

atm i have a small amount, it looks like someone has sprayed a light mist over the lid so the water is not dripping.

so i guess the bottom line is, do they sweat or do i have too much water in container?

I know that they sweat a few days before they're about to hatch, but i am not sure if they're meant to sweat prior to that time.
I had the same thing happen a few weeks back. There wasno condensation on the lid and the humidity was only at about 70%. I didn't know if it was meant to be there or not so with a tissue I gently dabbed it off.
Today thought, I have just noticed that those particular eggs that were sweating a few weeks ago now have teency lil spots of white, dry mould. The eggs still look white and healthy, just a few specs on them. I tried to gently wipe the mould off but it's not budging, so I might buy that stuff that the rock suggested in someone elses thread... Otherwise, they're due to hatch within the next 3 weeks so I will be keeping a close eye on them.
Good luck and I hope that someone with a lot more experience than me can help you out - I wanna know too!! ;)

Use some of the demister they use for diving goggles on the inside of the lid. You wont get this condensation then. The condensation is a by product of metabolism and that is what is happening when an embryo is developing in the egg. So yes they are technically sweating.

And by the way Soulweaver there is an article in the next monitor about MBD and how it works!

thanks for that MH, is it bad to leave the eggs the way they are? I.E will it harm the eggs to leave the condensation??

look foward to the next monitor mag!! better be a copy there with my name on it :)

Can't answer that as I have no condensation at all. I have heard there can be some and to just take the lid off and air for a few seconds and wipe if necessary but I am not speaking from experience. Sorry Luke. I hope to be there on Friday night as well. :)

Condensation is usually due to the temps in the incubator varying a bit, nothing too worry about, especially for lizard eggs. As long as it's less than 2C.
The white spots may well be calcium spots, again nothing to worry about. I certainly wouldn't be treating them with anything. Even if it is mould, I would be leaving them very much alone with only 3 weeks to go, they'll be respiring like mad about now.
