hey guys just wondering if anyone could give me a few tips to gettin my jungle python to eat he is only 1 1/2 months old and every time i try feed him he rejects it so i leave in his cage for the night and its still thier in morning dont no wat else to do just wont the poor fella to eat.

so any advise would be great thanks.

Hey mate,

what are you feeding him? i will assume pinky mice at this age if he hasnt been eating? have you tried braining them or scenting them with quail or chicken feathers i had a slow starter and took a long time to get him to accept food perserverance is the key but i wouldnt leave it in overnight as all thawed food spoils quickly. also what are you keeping him in and what temps is he normally kept at?

hey mace699 yea just pinky mice nar havnt tried scenting them and defently havnt tried braining them because i dont no wat that is? sorry haha um he was in a little container but moved him into a bit bigger enclosurejust more room for him and about 25 to 27 degrees?

your encloser might be too big for him and he is stressed out
if he is only 1.5 months old a 7ltr click clack will do you just fine

but he wouldnt eat even when he was in his ice cream container enclosure and thats pritty small but thanks ill put him back in the smaller one you think?

how long was he in that container before you tryed to feed him??
whats the feeding history from the breeder or did you breed him

umm he was in their for a good 3 1/2 weeks befor i even tried gettin him to feed just wonted him to settle a bit and he had had one feed befor i bought him but its wired cause none of my other pythons have ever done this? just worried bout him:(

mmm maybe try scenting the pinky weird the breeder sold him to you with it only having 1 feed

Ask the breeder - he got your money, it's his obligation to help you out. The history of the snake's husbandry is very important, also, 25 - 27 degrees is not much. Can he bask under heat source?

Braining works best for me....Smash the pinkys head a bit or try cutting it in half..Works for me but sounds like he is probably stressed to me!

And i would say up the heat it should be that cool end in my opinion

ok well thanks everyone ill leave him for a bit longer so he stresses less then ill try get him to feed might try braining and scenting it hopfully will work thanks alot everyone:)

Unless that animal has access to 32dg to warm its body it WONT eat, 25-27 for a jungle juvie is far to low and the size of the enclosure wouldnt be helping the problem at all! Get either a 5L or 10 L container and set it up in there.

try heating the mice up with a hair dryer. i had a california king snake (when i lived in the UK where they are readily avaliable and legal as pets) and she didnt eat for months. we tried everything and one day we decided to heat the mice up. it worked amazingly! it just allows the snake to sense the food more clearly, give it a shot!! =)

The most important change I would make is to offer it either fuzzies or small weaner mice - carpets of all sorts are less inclined to go for pinkies than other species are, and seem to prefer something fairly large. Never had consistent success offering pinks to and sort of carpet python.

Thawing the food out in hot water is quicker and better than using a hair dryer.

Hatchies don't bask either - at their age and size it would be suicide to expose themselves like that.
