Ive started taking my diamond pythons out of their avairy to catch the late afternoon sun by placing them on the clothes line. This afternoon I decided to put up the hammock and keep an eye on them.

Well after about 15 minutes I dozed off and woke up an hour later to find my two diamonds on the line still but with a large kookaburra sitting on the other end!!

I quickly took the smaller male diamond off the line and as I went back to the enclosure a second kookaburra was sitting ontop of it! Obviously they had sussed out my diamonds before.

Anyways the two diamonds are safely back in their avairy and the pair of kookaburras are perched in a large maple tree in the neighbours yard (in perfect position for a pot shot with an air rifle  ).

My question is, what should have been more worried???My diamonds (the female is abit over 6ft and weights probably 6kgs and the male is 5ft and about 3kgs)?? or the kookaburras (my female has eaten rabbits and guinea pigs larger than them)???

cheers

If they are in an outside avairy, they probably get enough sun anyway. If you leave them in there, I don't think any Kookaburras will get to them.
If you do take a "pot shot" at the Kookaburras then you are no better than the people in the thread that killed the RBBS.
My 7ft diamond only weighs about 3-4kg. You must have a really fat diamond.

um i would be worried if i feel asleep while my snakes where on the line !?
man im just glad they where still there when you woke up !!!
that is a crazy story ??!!!

Yeah man, take a bit more responsibility. And that'd be a massive Diamond...I have a big coastal, about 8 foot long who is 4.3 kilos.

Greebo,

the comment about the kookaburra and pot shot with the air rifle was a joke. Just showing my displeasure of it trying to snack on my pets

she is a bit fat, as i said about six kilos, maybe five but still a fat, I havnt fed her for 2 months. Should I give her a last meal b4 cooling or leave it???

As for falling asleep, yes irresponsible.

cheers

Obesity is considered to be a big part of Diamond Python Syndrome and they should be kept in a lean and muscular natural physical state.

I wouldn?t feed her anymore, I know it?s hard and seems a long time, and it?s only my opinion.

If she is really that heavy, then no, don't feed her until mid August or so.

I remember when I was about 15 this kooka took off with one of my juv water dragons, he snatched it out of my outdoor enclosure...he took it to a nearby tree and smacked it against the tree and ate it....I was so mad I picked up a sizable rock and throw it as hard as I could, hitting the bird right in the chest and knocked it to the ground.....man did I fell sorry for doing that I ran to the bird to see if it was dead and as I got near it looked up and flow away.....I felt really bad for the bird and my dragon...

Yes , sometimes in the heat of the moment you can act way out of character and, with those type of extrenuating circumstances I think it is almost acceptable and if you are a decent sort of person you mentally punish yourself far more than anyone else can.
Not that I've ever acted badly mind you :)

if ya chop up a dead mouse in science dont chop it steal a straw and some bluetack and turn the gas taps on and get a lighter shove the straw up the mouses ass and bluetack its on then fill the mouse up with gass fold the straw then when ya ready unfold the end of the straw and light it and it will go flying like a rocket shouldof done that to the bird

interesting............odd ball :?

I will weigh her properly and find out how much she weighs. I just said six kilos on the estimate that a fellow herper said when carrying her in a pillow case.

I do plan to breed her next season so she will drop some weight.

cheers
