I'm chasing a book which contains relevant growth rates, weights and other such information on native species of Australian Pythons. I have little collection of 10 or so books but none that cover such information. any help would be appreciative.
I have quite a few books now too but so far the one i keep referring back to is 'Biology and Evolution of Australian Snakes' by Greer. It was around $80 from Jonno. It has tables and tables of data on all of the Australian snakes including some growth rates and other data on weight, size etc. It has been written more like a scientific paper than a narrative like Shine's 'A Natural History of Australina Snakes.'
Thanks for that I'll have to track that book down and the other one as well as i don't have that one either. There is nothing better than a good read to expand my knowledge.
Unless you class yourself as an absolute newbie i wouldn't bother with Shine's book honestly. I don't doubt the information in it but there are no references, not many data tables (the ones in it i really didn't find that interesting) and it doesn't have the info you are asking for but it is really easy to read. If you can handle reading science journals and the like then i would just go for the Greer.
Well that will save me some money, nothing worst buying a book and getting the feeling it not worth the paper printed on because the info to you is old or not relevant.
