I am in training for my new job this week, and we had to do one of those "Hi my name is.........." and say something we loved to do. I, of course, proclaimed my love of my beautiful snake. :D
The reactions were the usual............. "Oh, yuck :x " , "Cool!! ", etc.

Then afterwards, I had two of the "ladies "(I don't really want to say what I REALLY think of these two!!) come over to me and one of them proceeds to ask me the usual questions, "What do they feel like, how do you feed them, oooh oooh yuckyuck...."etc.

Then out of the blue, the other one turns to me and says "You are So disgusting!!! People like you should not be able to have things like that!!! It's not natural!!!!" Then she went off on how "she and her kind" are SOOOOOOOO much more normal, and how they kill Anything like that. I Was Like   !!!!!!!!!! But once she had run out of steam, I tried to explain, you know, inform her, but ....... Oh My Sweet Aunt May, it just started the stupid airhead off again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the end, I had to walkaway, cause I was ready to punch her stupid head off her stupid shoulders!!!!

Proberly Wouldn't have gone down well with the new bosses...........
"Can you explain Why you felt the need to remove her head and bounce it down the corridor like a basketball?"

Anyway, as I was leaving, a few of the others caught up with me in the carpark, and told me that they had overhead us talking, and wanted to ask me a few more questions.
That lead to an hour's discussion, and all three asked for info on where to get snakes/lizards!!!!!
So, suprisingly, a horrible, potentially homicidal situation  turned into a conversian!!!! Three more addicts to the bunch!!!! :D 8)

Anyway, just wanted to vent!!!!! Thanks!!!

Ooohhh yuck, people like you shouldnt be allowed to blue rinse your hair, we should kill old people like you...ooooohhh yuck you're all wrinkly....he he he, that should have been your response.

they kill Anything like that
Dragon. you should have returned the favours that she has obviously done to our herps and
remove her head and bounce it down the corridor like a basketball
I think this would have been a suitable punishment

Lol @ "bluerinse" Al, who do these poor bewildered old ducks think they are kidding anyway?
like folks will think its natural?

Thankfully thats going to happen less and less as the years go by.
I sold a childreni to a 10yr boy and even mum and dad thought it was pretty cool, despite being terrified on the way to my house. :)

Normally when you rip someones head off, you do something down the neck, I've forgotten exactly what

Actually it seems you handled yourself well. Well done. :thumb

When showing snakes off at the pet expo you could often convice the waverers to pat the snake by saying it felt like a really high-quality handbag. Couldn't do much about those who stayed ten meters away and made faces.

...... and I also tell people that they feel like a bodybuilder's forearm.............. warm, smooth and muscly!!! Ladies seem to like that!!!!!!!

I just sold a maccie to a guy in about his 50's. He was buying at as a B'day present for his son. He said his son has always loved snakes and wanted one as pet. The old man was against it at first but after seeing some at a show and asking a few questions and being able to handle his first snake he changed his mind. The maccie is to be a surprise for his son.
So it just goes to show that people are coming around to these awesome creatures and the more people we get to see and touch our reptiles, the better of they'll be.

1dragonett - You did well - after seperating her head from her shoulders I would've wanted to rip her bleeping arms off and poke her eyes out with the blunt ends.
It's plain outright ignorance.

I wonder how she'd feel about being overrun with mice in her kitchen. May her home be infested with the equivalent of all the rodents we have all fed to snakes over the years.
Em

I dont think we need to go that far earth mother :D just for having different views than our own

Not natural? So keeping "adorable" cats and dogs which kill countless numbers of native fauna is?

Well, you should have killed the bitch, slowly and very painfully. Too Late now though eh!! Bring a 8ft King Brown into work, and leave it in the drawer of her desk...show the Evil Woman

That will have me giggling like an idiot all day EM..thanks for that! :D

However, what is it with people like that!? Did you then tell them that we as an animal aren't all that fantastic! We marvel blindly at all the extraordinary things we do, and how great, and how high on the order of things we sit, while we consume and destroy vast areas of land & animals, sea & sky! 'OH YUCK!' we hear! 'How disgusting, a snake!!' as I'm sure the owner of the fowl mouth jumped in and kicked over her smokey old deisel Merc and drove off- and yet here is a living animal, simple in it's existence and sophisication, yet our own ignorance has labelled them disgusting! It's the pot calling the kettle black I reckon!

I found that people are scared of what they don't know. i took Monty to my friends house the other day and her and her mother screamed.(stupid people). but after 30 min or so i had them both handling him. and then...well u shouldof tried to get them to let me take him home. i felt good after that. :D

It's a nice feeling when you can get through to some people like that Liberated - but it's as frustrating as hell when you're met with a blank look of horror and no hope in blazes of changing their stubborn ideas. I'll still try!

My Mum-in-law can't even look at them! 'Why?' I ask. 'I just can't' is the reply. I reckon as an adult, people like this need to %$#@ing get over it!!!! Oh yes, we're all really clever & smart - but by god we're just as stupid & ignorant!

As an example, I'll admit I'm not keen on spiders. I haven't had much experience with them, and because of that, I don't understand them. Yet if someone was to give me their time to show and explain a little about them, I would show them at least some common curitiousy for trying to educate me about them. Perhap then I'd be able to put away some of my concerns about spiders through the fact that as humans we should, even more so as adults, have a reasonable level of intellegence. I'm not suggesting by the way I have a wall-climbing fear of them -they just don't seem to be for me! :D

Children are so much more rewarding when trying to understand these animals. If you can get them young enough before the parents have poisoned them with all the hype & crap about snakes, that's been shovelled into the heads as kids from generations of ignorant relatives, we stand a chance of reversing most of the damage that is consumed in the half baked stories that have been told about them. The people who do the reptile rounds at schools and parties are doing these animals a great service.

Most people have had their thought curcuits burnt in and set by the time they reach adulthood. It is very difficult to change their views once they reach that stage. Children tend to be more open to new times, afterall everything is new to them.

Yeah Moosenoose i'm sure we'll all try and knock some commonsence into those daft idiots. although one can only try.
