Sounds like she got ride of him...

A bit suss with no attack or blood even seen :? :?

Who knows?????

There should be evidence all over the the canoe and paddle.. If the attack was fake, they should be able to tell.

Im a believer though!!!

authorities did shoot the croc that killed him. at least it was the biggest one they could find in the area

morons

Not only that there was no sign of the man so quite obviously it was the wrong croc!

Trouble with this article is that it should have read:

Innocent Croc Shot in Reprisal Panic!

It'd be exactly like running through the Serengeti with string of Rump steaks tied around your neck! - Risky and plain stupid! What a waste!

I heard that on the radio too... Its so lame that they gotta shoot it...

What is it solving???

I Was SO pissed when i heard they shot it, and moreso when it was not the right one...

Is killing a croc supposed to do anything? Anyone from up north sleep any easier knowing the supposed maneater is dead? Sounds harsh but I think they should be praising the croc for improving our gene pool. Anyone who fishes from a canoe in croc areas is just asking for troubles.

I could be wrong (it HAS happened before!) but I was under the impression that crocs didn't eat their prey immediately. Don't they wedge it under a snag or something and wait for it to soften/decay before they eat it? In that case there probably wouldn't be anything in the stomach....

in any case, there would have been something still in its mouth

The Melbourne Age has a better headline... "Cops get wrong croc"

http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/cops-get-wrong-croc/2005/08/18/1123958152399.html

news.com.au is running a similar line....

Cops get wrong croc
August 18, 2005 - 8:06AM

A post mortem examination on a crocodile believed to have killed a Queensland fisherman has found it was not responsible for the attack.

Townsville man Barry Jeffries, 60, was fishing with his wife Glenda when he was dragged from his canoe by a crocodile at Cape York's Lakefield National Park late Tuesday.

Authorities yesterday shot a 400kg croc suspected of the attack.

However, a police spokeswoman said a post mortem examination carried out on the reptile last night failed to find any trace of human remains.

She said authorities had continued to search the far north Queensland waterhole to try to locate other crocodiles which may be responsible for the attack.

The search for Mr Jeffries' remains will resume this morning, she said.

Mrs Jeffries was thrown into the water when the canoe overturned but managed to swim to safety before raising the alarm.

The couple's children Kerry and Troy, in their 20s, have driven to Cape York to be with their mother.

That has always been my impression as well Lutzdy.

Apparently there was no alcohol found in the croc, as the guy would have had to have been absolutely s***faced to be fishing in a canoe that size!! :?

It is bloody pathetic that they had to kill the croc for doing what it has done for millions of years. We enter crocs and sharks homes all the time, its a risk people take everyday. If someone gets bitten or eaten then bad luck, they took that riske and it bit them in the ****. (Sorry if I sounded a bit harsh).

Lutzd,
Crocs will only ever eat fresh prey... Never old ****. Put a piece of fresh meat, with a piece of old meat, the croc will take only the fresh piece.

They do wedge bodies under logs etc, ONCE THEY HAVE HAD A FEED (usually). The interesting thing is, that the rotting body attracts many animals - turtles, fish, birds, monitors etc... The croc simply hides the original meal, and then feeds off the animals that are eating the decyaing body. Really Cool :)

Crocs are quite regularily shot up here. If there is a 4m rogue croc roaming around attacking boats, etc... NPWS either has to relocate it to a croc farm, or shoot it. Are you going to volunteer to keep the next 4m saltie they get? Thats usually why their shot! Its a bit sad, but its life! I, personally wouldnt mind so much if they got the right croc, but shooting the first big croc they see is pretty low. Aint NPWS great ;)

they sould feed the person that shoot the croc to another one for getting the wrong one. we got rid of the death penatly a long time ago! but i think that if you can kill a croc for killing a person why cant we kill the person for killing an innocent croc?
