i only have a 1ft x 1ft x 1ft. its my little slice of the ocean. corals and everything but it isn't that attractive atm! though i hope to buy a 3ft x 18" x 18"!

ALSO, let me inform everybody that it only really gets expensive if you setup a reef tank or a fowlr(fish only with live rock) tank. a fish only tank costs about the same as your standard tropical fishtank. cept the fish are a little big more expensive(but more colourful).

I agree there is always that extra bit of coral, or fish you see you just have to have, damn expensive hobby but very impressive once set up properly.

thats why small tanks like mine are good, i have to look hard for corals that are small enough to fit in my tank! i have only spend about 80 bucks on coral, however thats only for my leather coral($35), 2 mushrooms($10 each) and my open brain coral. i also have a colony of brown button polyps, a colony of nice coloured zoanthids and a red mushroom that cost me $0, i simply traded for them! what you do is get yoruself some nice corals then grow em and cut em up! then trade the cuttings(frags) for frags of different corals!

ps lamu i must have a frag of your new zoos, i love thier colouration!

I used to have problems keeping the temp down in my 4x2x2 over summer here in sydney.
Id die with anything smaller. cost a fortune too with the old chillers running.

anyway couple of pics from the ol' tank.

pitty the clown won't hold still its impossible to get a decent picture of him.

yeah I love corals. theyre so alien looking arent they. nice pics slackra.

another option redline is setting up a predator tank. with stuff like lion fish
and eels

heres a pic of my other baby. (slightly more related to herps). a 4 foot spotted moray. sadly tho, I sold him recently due to endless problems with his tank. 200L of saltwater on your carpet is never a good thing

if youre going 6 foot, maybe you can have blue spotted rays, small sharks, morays etc much easier than filling & maintaining a 6 ft reef

nice pics thanks ppl for the infor. keep them comeing i love. well i have $5000 for my setup put away geting my 6ft.2.4.2.4 t/m so i cant wait..

blue spot stingrays are awesome predators for anyone getting a predator tank

Wow amazing pics Gerry, what camera you using? super Macro shots those, love the eel too, I was thinking of making my 4x2x2 a predator tank put a clown trigger an emperor angel fish, and a nice Eel in there a few I like actually. Oh yeah and of course a lion fish!

Ill get there one day..

emperor angel fish need more space than a 4ft long tank and are not predators.

if you had a snowlfake moray, a smaller species of lionfish and the clown trigger then i think it would be possible. though the cost of buying a snowflake moray, small species of lion fish and a clown trigger could be in the $200-$300 dollar range.

Sadly the tank is no more. I used to frequent RTAW when the tank was running but haven't been there in a while now. I cannot recommend it enough!!!!

There's a virtual aquarium on my Finding Nemo DVD, sure you have to clean the DVD once a year but it is much easier and cheaper to maintain.

I have recently half-dismantled my marine tank, i had to sell off the live rock to help pay for Beezle (my stimmie) and have been trying to get rid of the fish ever since! I had a simple temperate setup, with live rock , a bullrout and a stone fish.

I have now decided that i'm going to fix up an old 18" cube tank and transfer the water, substrate and the Stone fish in there, i am a huge fan of scorpionfish, the bullrout i caught myself, along with th evarious shrimp and schooling fish that the stoney eats, nothing is more fun than an hour in the lake collecting food and friends for my fish, unfortunetly as is the case with scorpionfish, if it fits in their mouth, it's breakfast.

Have, fun!

Every time I see a piccy of a fish like that yellow one I have this overwhelming urge to go "FEESHY FEESHY FEESHY" ...as Bex could tell ya lol

i got my tank 2day it's a 6ft*2.4*2.4. i cant wait for the rest of it

ROTFLMAO

Yes - quite true ppl, I CAN tell you
But hey - I get that same urge!! But mine's more like 'here fischy fischy fischy' and it's usually when I am sitting out in the ocean w/ a fishing rod!
Oh redline I'm envious!! I can't wait to have a tank - AND a car so that I can go to some MASOV (marine aquarium society of vic) meets!! Some ppls tanks are unbelievable!
I need to learn more about the plumbing and the construction of a sump though before I dive head fist into it.
I have started going back to RTAW again to refresh my memory and have put my first $150 back into a saving account for the marine tank :D :D
Ahhhh.... *sigh* I'll get there one day

well dis is my frist setup of marine so i hope things going well i have $5000 for it so it should go well i hope.

good one redline!..my brother is setting up a tank the same size, it takes a lot of time to think about the filtration systems and skimmers that will best suit it and where to get the cheapest live rock and fish that are suitable for the tank, but its comming along....slowly lol..should be great though!!
