Thankyou. I'm going to the vet in an hour with the male and will be buying some TOD. Will give him a bath when I get home with him too. I'm going to put them in other tubs while I fog there normal enclosures with the TOD. Hopefully they won't spread everywhere..

I haven't read all your replies so my apologies if I have repeated anything already said.

Empty out the enclosure and fog it with the TOD. That means give it a very genreous spraying & close the doors and leave it for a few days. Water bowls, hides and branches can be submerged in boiling water then left out in the full sun. the sun is beautiful and scorching right now so good time of year to kill anything.

Meanwhile, let your snake soak in warm water, for about 4 hours, more is fine, just put a heatmat under half the container to help keep the water warm. There are mixed opinions as to whether you need to add anything to the water or not. But water alone will drown mites. If you want to add extra, try and find a headlice conditioner called 'orange medic'. If you can find the older solutions they are preferred. The ones available at the chemist these days have tea tree added to it which is not known whether its any good for reptiles or not. I have used the tea tree one on my pythons for ticks without problems but I don't know if longterm use has worse effect, and at that time I didn't know better about the newer product. So you might be able to find some older solution on the net, friends that have been in it for years might have some, or use a mild hair conditioner or fabric softner. Put your snake in a pillow case in the water if using solutions.

Repeat it every 2 to 3 weeks until you are certain they are gone.

Good thing you have isolated him. What your own movements between your reptiles to avoid spreading it. Mites can get on your clothing and drop off into other enclosures. Just like nits and kids, it spreads very easy. But if you tend to your healthy animals first, and worry about the mites last, and either change your clothes, shower or not go back to your animals once you have tended to the mite fella, you should be able to minimise spread.

Mites happen. It isn't really anybody's fault, unless someone is selling animals and well aware of their mite infestation and still sell the animals without warning buyers. All you can do is treat it. Hope it makes you more aware for future purchases to take extra good look at animals you are buying or quarantining them when you get them until you are certain they are clear of such nasties.

I'm back from the vet.. he has mites.. I bought TOD. about to fog it now.. He also has a bit to much parasites but the vet said that would be from stress (parasites in his stool) so he is on point 5 of a Mill every 2nd day for 6days..

Sorry, he has tritri something parasites in his stool caused from stress.. dr bob wanted to lower the count of em, the stuff he is on is flaqyl suspension sorry.

I've also been told by dr bob to spray tod on a tissue and wipe his chin were all the mites are, then get a damp cloth and re wipe and then bath him.

My god.. i'm never going to be able to force feed or hold something by its head... I got bit 7times trying to hold him while I wiped him down..

Yes, I just said that incase people thought I was blaming the breeder or something. And I've learned the lesson and will quarantine from now on. We all make mistakes sometimes but thats how we learn :)

Hi, here in Germany we know "Alvertra Interplex-Spray".
It´s usually biological without any toxic. I could help you, when you´re interesting.
Cheers

mites are a pain in the butt, go to a vet store and get a bottle of permoxin, dilute to half the dose recommended for dogs and cats. put your bredli in a plastic tub and give it a good spray, leave it in the tub(garbage bin) works well, for 5 mins or so, wash snake in fresh water, bingo. repeat in 2 weeks.they're more annoying than anything else. spray all cages and reptiles, spray areas around cages. spray any new reptiles as you get them to stop it happenin again, ive found permoxin stops them quick and permanent. good luck, ihope this is helpful. cheers

Earlier you mentioned F10. :shock:This is not TODD is it?! I am currently using 1ml of F10 in 500mls of water via nebuliser for my coastal (pescribed by my vet) for respiratory infection (and antibiotics).

Good luck with the mites, I heard metho is quite effective for mites (actually everything when it comes to cleaning cages). Also I think some one told me you could use a little in the snakes bath but dont quote me on that I would need to chase it up.

As soon as I get a new reptile, I immediately TOD it and the tub, regardless of where I purchased the animal. I also TOD all my other reptiles as well at the same time, removing their water and food. I make sure that I TOD atleast two days before or after feeding (snakes) and wait until my lizards have finished eating for the day before I spray them at night. This is mainly a preventative/cautious measure that I take to avoid risking infestation in the first place. I repeat the TOD process usually a week or two after the initial "spraying/fogging" and I usually TOD every animal 3-4times... So the treating/prevention usually spans over a month or more for me. It is a hassle. but its better to be safe than sorry and prevention is always better than a cure (or erradication in this case).

My brother didn't do any of this as I suggested, instead accused me of being paranoid and padantic, and he ended up with mites all through his collection and I insisted he and anyone else touching his reptiles not bring them into the house or and to TOD etc themselves before entering the house, but they didn't, and somehow they ended up giving my collection mites too! So after a bottle or two of TOD... I was free of mites again. He still doesn't listen to me though, so I feel for his reptiles. Anyways, moral to the story: my suggestion is to TOD any new addition to your collection from now on. It works for me atleast...:)
