Hi all,

Rainy day today and a bit bored, thought I'd post a picture of myself (kind of) and a photo of my 7yr old daughter with the dad of my Darwin python whom we visited and had a hold of Yesterday (my daughter took the photo). The reason I'm posting is because for a Darwin, he's kind of unique, at 10ft long (unfortunately not really shown in the photo) he was a real handful when he'd had enough - I realise that he's a pussy-cat compared to the likes of some olives etc but it was good to meet the parents! !:D I really enjoyed having a hold of a really large python like him, I now truly understand why people go for the scrubbies etc. They are indeed amazing animals when the size factor is increased. :D

Jungle and NoOne i think ur both wrong. look at the size comparison between him and the girl. although i think that he might b about 8-9 feet.

show me a picture of it with a tape running down its back and I will belive it.

The snake looks about 7 foot long to me.

That's fine, I can understand the doubt. I won't believe until I see myself what some people claim. I haven't had the opportunity to run a tape over him myself (the meeting was brief), and I'm only going on what the owner of the snake says. As I used to do trade work for many years and have a good eye for measurement, I can tell you for a fact he's around 2700mm - and that my friends is about 9ft. I will endeavour to get a photo with a better measurement reference involved - the photo with my daughter was only posted to give some idea of how big this guy is.

moose man you look sooooo familiar to me... :? where abouts in melb are you?

he is about 8-9ft as i have held him as well. he is not the bulkiest snake though compared to the female.

Thanks Ricko - I knew I'd flush you out of the woodwork sometime with this post LOL I can understand ppl not believing he's as big as I say he is - I will try sooner or later to get him outside and get a tape over him. It was raining the day I went over and he's still being cooled, so we didn't want to bug him too much.

I got a little bit of a shock when she said "there he is, go and grab him", I thought sure thing! - he was all coiled up in the corner having a snooze. I gave him a few strokes to wake him, at which point his head popped up out of the coils and looked at me as if to say"hello! What do you want!?" LOL I slowly lifted part of him out and JESUS! - he just kept on sliding out. The photos don't really do any justice to him. For a Northwestern - he's one big fella!

Well, that is probably the biggest Darwin in captivity then, small carpets.

Looks like there's a loop or two of coils inside the terracotta pot. Could possibly be ten feet.

I've heard from a couple of ppl more in the know about these things than I, that's he's the biggest Darwin they have ever seen.

You're right NoOne the female is the one in the pot. I'll try at some point to get a photo to back what I'm saying. I thought it was interesting that's all - I'm not bragging that I've seen the largest python in the world here -I'm just saying this guy is extremely big for a Darwin. I should have posted saying he is close to 10ft ....perhaps 9+ would have been more accurate & acceptable to some. Here's another shot -still doesn't help with the size though.

I dont know about the others here, but i reckon its big ass snake, id believe 9-10 foot for sure.

And we know your daughter didnt get her cutie looks from you....lol he he he, must be from her mum.
