I'd give it back if it was a family owned store that sold real food, not a over priced corperation that sells food flavoured products that over package everything.
The poor kid could get better payed at Coles or Woolies with out being hounded by those slave drivers.

Can you tell I'm not a huge fan of Ronalds? They can bite my big A!! hahaha

AG,

What you do is ultimately your decision. There have been views for and against put forward, but in the end it's up to you. If your conscience won't be at ease until you give it back, then it would probably be best to do so. If it's inconvenient to go back down the coast, then you could give the money to a charity - a Herp Society, or maybe Ronald McDonald House.

Then again, if you can live with it, then keep the money. I don't think anybody on this site would think the less of you for doing so (except Liberated, who doesn't seem to liberated when it comes to this).

Just my $41.70 cents worth.

:p

Hix

Ring them and tell them to come and get it! It's their problem why should you have to take it back? If they want it they'll come and get it :)

Think about this one. Add up all the fuel you have wasted on sitting in thier drive thru when they put the trainee staff on during the busiest times or having to wait in the carpark for them to cook the rest of ur order. Think of it as thier compo for your petrol i also agree with afro if they want it give them your address.

If their draw was over by $41.70 at the end of the day , do you think they would try to contact all their customers to see who owns it ?
How many people here have been accidentlly over charged before and never bothered to go back for, say $0.50, and how many times a day do you think that might happen ?

So u don't mind that drive thru person losing their job over it? if u have probs with the maccas service u can call up head office and complain.

Attention to detail.

If the person on the register had this, then they wouldnt have made the mistake. I could speal on all day about jobs where a simple mistake can cost lives ect ect but i really couldnt be stuffed.

Again, keep the cash and buy some herp stuff with it AG.

RE: Re: RE: Moral Dilemma...

alrighty then, looks like majority wins. keep it then. though i don't recomend u post a moral question on here again. Most herpers have no morals

Hmm that would be my preference how to returned the cash.

I am surpriced how many people here like the idea to get something what is not belong to them.
mabe that explain why my georgina was stolen during our APS meating.

I would assum that the person who took her did excused him self like this:

I will take this snake from that Slateman becaose he for sure cheated somebody else before in his life and he done some bad things to some other people.

I think that if the shop did something wrong by mistake before to customer do not make it right to justifie to cheet back.

I agree with Judy.

RE: Re: RE: Moral Dilemma...

Slatey,
I think (well, for me) that when it comes to a huge corporation making a mistake in the consumers favour we tend to take advantage of it as best we can.

If it was a single persons money, like average Joe blow or even Kerry Packer, we would generally make the effort to return the money to the person. Cause in that case you would personally know how it feels to lose something that you have earnt/worked for. Whereas, an amount like $41.70 would be written off by the restaraunt and returned when they claim their losse's for the year.

Just my thoughts on the subject with a little more in depth detail i guess.

RE: Re: RE: Moral Dilemma...

just keep it. I would bet the staff and managment at the maccas you went to are over it and won't even remember if you did take it back.
if you feel really guilty give the money to ronald macdonald house. thats about the only good thing to come out of maccas anyway!
my opinion

Sounds like you have a heart of gold Slatey, and i Think that many of the people who have disagreed with you do as well. Its just that most, like myself, seem to feel that Mac Chucks has been ripping them off in the past (maybe in ways as not as blatant as keeping extra change) and have decided that the money won't be missed by such a huge controlling American corp. I give back wallets, don't steal, and usually return extra change to your average business etc. like i would hope most would on the site, but as for the big "M" i just couldn't feel the shame or guilt.

Oh, and thats terrible about your snake getting pinched.....low life dogs!!!! what comes around does go around for those types. Shame!!

RE: Re: RE: Moral Dilemma...

These sort of situations ALWAYS drive my mind insane...having a conscience SUCKS some times :p The whole thing about the girl losing her job would just give me the biggest guilt trip in wanting to return it but on the flipside it IS McDonalds I'm sure they can afford to lose 40 bucks... I think both sides of the argument have been well represented in the thread.

If you ring them up and explain it to them, tell them where you are, there is a chance they'll just tell you to keep it and not worry about it...the managers are generally flat out so they're hardly going to worry about it - it may even end up costing them more to get the money back than it would to rectify the problem.

RE: Re: RE: Moral Dilemma...

Just quickly,

Slateman, i cant believe that after you generously opened your home to some people you thought you could trust, one of them turned around and stole from you, thats just a major disgrace. It happened to me once, nothing as significant as a snake, but the fact is i trusted someone and they stole from my home. Its a sickening feeling that they just thought they could help themselves, in a way you kind of think also that they didnt even respect you or your belongings before they even were invited.

With recently having alot of people (strange and known) in my house whilst selling my beardie hatchies, it upset me that i felt the need to watch them closely after the one time that someone did steal from me. I trust anyone and everyone till they lose it, but maybe thats one of my own downsides, maybe i should treat everyone like a thief till they earn the trust......I dont know.

Anyway, thats just my little slightly off topic bit for this thread. Thanks for reading (or sorry for the post).

Cheers, Alan.

Last post nicley said Tim.

in an institution like MCDonalds it would be almost impossible for someone to lose employment over a simple mistake like this. I'm sure they would have the 3 warning structure set up or something similar to protect themselves and their workers from unfair dissmissal claims etc. I know people who have worked their way up to managers in the Maccas family and they made plenty of mistakes. It would be her consience that would be most affected i think...poor thing.

RE: Re: RE: Moral Dilemma...

For those of you new to the site, the snake Slatey had stolen from him was a beautiful 9ft Diamond Python so you can understand his distress.

I can beat the $41. I found a cheque loose in the mail for 16 grand. I chased down the owner of the cheque and it was the manager of the local McDonalds.
