my mum wont let me get a snake but i am determined to have one, does anyone have any ideas on how to 'bring her around'?

If you are living in her house you should respect her wishes. Move out, then she will have to respect your right to have snakes.

You should have been on your best behavior for a few days, then asked :)

Ha! RBB musta beat me by a second on the submit button...but two minds think alike..
thats cause we are MOTHERS ...:lol::lol::lol: if you was my offspring and I didnt like snakes that would be my response to you too ....but as I love snakes ,had you been my offspring ..we couldve gone herping together ;)

Yeah whats in it for your mum? You gunna do more around the house so she thinks your responsible?

My daughter spent a year doing research and also cared for the dog (much more labour intensive than a snake) for a month. Given that I like snakes, we got her one. My parents still hate snakes, so I had to move out - which I did as soon as I could!

I just got one with out her knowing. Lol. Once she saw I was responsible enough to look after it she was cool with it. Now she part of our family :)

Respect young lad. Why doesn't your mum want a snake in the house? Is she worried you won't care for it? Is she afraid of snakes (some people won't admit to this)?

Find out WHY she doesn't want a snake and work with her to solve that... or better yet, move out. Mum's house, mum's rules, your house, your rules. ;)

Well I'm 18
My mum HATES snakes
But I can get one because if is 100% my money
It's going to be kept in my room
And I will be moving out within the next 12 months if I can find a place

She loves bearded dragons, my cousin used to have one and she thought it was cute

yeah i agree with the above mate, 19 is right around that age where people do the whole moving out thing. if you think your current living situation is unfair, change it. youre old enough to brave the world. I personally HATE spiders, but would let my kids keep spiders, on very strict conditions of avoiding me with said spiders. but i understand the frustration of having a hobby that so many people fear. your mother may not share my empathy.

Your a big boy now so alot of my suggestions may not be appropriate.
I know people who just got one.
My wife came round because we went to a show where a big coastal was brought out by this little female guide and it just hung round her neck and explored a little when placed on the ground. We could go up and have a touch, and my wife said that they were not so bad, well that was it, a week later we had our first lil snake. Then I had to try and stop her buying more which was hard to do considering I wanted them as well but maybe a different type.

To think that she was petrified of a lil childrens I held at a cousins house a few years before. Now she holds anything even if it bites because "they'll calm down as they get used of us".
There is hope.

Im after tips on this too, how can i convince my parents that Pilbara Death Adders are essential household critters?

Cris to make use of all the leaf litter in the yard that would never ever get used!

Talk to your mum and find out what the issues are...then ask if she would come with you to a couple of mates places who have nice, calm snakes.
You may find once her fears are overcome then things may improve.

I am a mother. I dont want to have a snake in my house.(sorry please dont hate me) . If my son really wanted a snake I would ask him to show me that he could care for it by looking after one of the various pets in our house WITHOUT me reminding him.

The issue to me is that I would have trouble touching the dead mice and seeing them in the freezer. I suppose if you put them in a dark container that would be okay.

Maybe if you sit down with her and ask her the reasons and then come back to her with an answer. To me if you wish to be treated as a resonsible person then just act like one.

Why would you want a wellsi? Sounds like they are really finicky feeders. Antarcticus are nicer IMO.

well i talked to mum and she said she'd "think" about it... all i can do is hope i guess. thanks for the help guys.
