just got outta hospital last sat and will be spending the next few weeks inside on my backside and am hoping some of you can give me a few ideas on some good non-fiction novels/paperbacks/autobiographies etc. I love to read and knocked off about 40 books this year which made the previous year look like a joke (2 books....lol)) Topics: Crime, autobiographiy, are my fav, but i am open to anything interesting as i am getting so sick of the net.

Cheers Kris

If you like funny stuff, try Terry Pratchett's Disc world series, you wont look back! :D

The Damage done (by Warren fellows) is an interesting read...aussie bloke spent several years in a Thai prison.

"Touching the void" and "into thin air" are also great reads about mountain climbing mishaps.

I have to agree with Instar about Terry Pratchett, although I am biased as he did create me. Of course, the Discworld series is fiction though.....or is it?

For non fiction try "Marching Powder by Rusty Young"
Here's the blurb " A true story of friendship, cocaine and South America's strangest jail."
This guy actually bribed the guards of the jail to let him stay in the jail for a couple of months. A very interesting read.

LOl You never know Greebs, Much truth in it's characters thats for sure! :D

The series of books starting with "Tomorrow When the War Began" by John Marsden IS GREAT !!!

Also a book called eXistenZ by David Cronenberg / John Luther Novak is also a good read

tomorrow when the war began was a great book except if i remember right they killed a snake in it

this isn't an autobiograpfy or crime.....but this book got me reading again

James Herbert - Once
its about evildoers, fairys and all otherthings, its also a bit kinky...lol
it starts off slow but once the story starts you cant put it down!

 Terry Pratchet's Disc World Novels are just too funny, you should read them, you will be chuckling to yourself all day. It is also good for being on the train in the morning because when you are chuckling to yourself people don't sit next to you.....they fear for there lives LOL

No, they just found one in their sleeping bag and some one accused the poor thing of chasing them.

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

if you can get your hands on a copy of it, the diary of jack the ripper is a good read.

doors of perception heaven and hell ~ aldous huxley is also another great book

RE: Re: RE: Non Fiction ideas?

Thanks guys, i will give the Tery Pratchett one a try, I have read "marching powder" and The damage done - by warren fellows and they are both absolutely awsome books. - looked up a few books last night on Neddy Smith and I might try and get one of his....i love that Painters and Dockers stuff.

"Mr. Nice" is also a good read - true story about howard marks the drug smuggler.

Yeah...my copy had a grinning picture of Howard Marks in black and white on the cover. Some of the stuff he got up to was incredible...
